WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2023

I've had a seed sowing marathon today. Cleaned out the bigger propagator and got that up and running .

 

Weeding in the morning, then more work on the new strip leveling and more digging.

 

Went out after lunch and removed a lot of dead plants left over in the autumn. Annuals and half-hardy perennials.

 

Potted on the lupin seedlings, there's 40 i did so many because some will die from the shock.

 

Busy day today it been nice and sunny . Trimmed my side of the really tall neighbour leylandii hedge. Planted a Garrya james roof which was a rescue about 3year ago poor thing been in the same pot rarely watered stuffed behind the shed its had a hard life, bought on whim cause it were cheap £3 I wanted one but nowhere to put , I don't usually buy plants on a whim. Planting wasn't a easy matter either I've planted it behind another shed so gutter needed turning round a old gate removed and plant stage thing with a million plants on moved it were a bit of a nightmare really but hopefully it be worth it .

Also blown the leaves out of the beds on to the lawn and got one of the mowers out and picked everything up as well as give the lawn a light trim . Washed outside of the greenhouse and pruned a rambling rose and climbing rose , it got a bit chilly by then and light started to fade is in for a mug of tea .

Feels like spring is coming I am getting awfully twitchy about wanting to go out into the garden

 

@Logan You are going to have a forest of lupins they are not the best movers , that remind me I need to try and relocate my lupin.

 

Yes because of the tap root, they're not easy to grow in my garden, they die for some reason,i'll probably give some to my friend Marion.

 

I always sow mine directly into the border around April to save having to move them.
If you are eager to start earlier then yes you do have to sow/ germinate them indoors and maybe then risk losing some.

 

Yes I've come to terms with losing some, i could have sowed 2 seeds in each of the toilet roll tubes if i thought about it before.
Don't like to sow them in the border, might get eaten by slugs.

 

Cover them with plastic bottles with their bases removed, at night screw the lids back on.

 

I've never had a problem growing Lupins. Grown from seed and planted out when they've reached about 6 inches in height and I've not lost any. Many years ago I dug one up, cut it in half with a spade and replanted both parts. Both settled in and grew well.

 

Surely not the one you've just pruned @Loofah?

 

I checked the pots on the balcony railings this morning for more flowers on the Crocuses but sadly only one more yellow one has opened. Nevertheless, there are more in the offering. The yellow ones probably open first to be followed by other colours later. When there are more flowers open I'll take a few photos!
