Why is it that we now have to use computers to do things, but went something isn't quite right we then have to go back to a old fashion way to get the job done  :ccheers:

All books by Roald Dahl are now being edited to remove potentially offensive language.
In, "James and the giant peach" cloud men has been changed to cloud people. In the "Witches" old hags has now been changed to old crows. Apparently hundreds of words have either been cut or rewritten, such as references to weight, mental health, violence, gender and race.

This is getting ridiculous! Why not stop the people of this world from speaking, reading and writing - then they won't offend anyone. And what happened to freedom of speech?

The whole thing makes me want to spit. It's ridiculous. Right along with tearing down statues because it offends someone today about something that happened hundreds of years ago

There's a lot of second hand books out there.
Roald Dahl wasn't a thing until I was a teenager then it was "Tales of the Unexpected", after the "watershed".

Been going on for some time. Enid Blyton's books have been changed decades ago 'to move with the times' e.g. replacing the naughty golliwogs with goblins. Same with some films, Guy Gibson's dog had it's named changed or was edited out completely in The Dambusters.

I've got a habit of saying "Good Golly !" when I'm shocked or surprised etc. Is that offensive ? I've always said it and do so automatically. I've said it before I even think about it. I don't mean to offend anyone by it, i
t's just an exclamation of surprise.
Maybe I should say "Good Goblins" ? but I wouldn't want to offend any goblins ...

In that form of use it was always an alternate word for God and if anyone tries to upbraid you for its use I would be inclined to explain it as such - or kick them between the legs! :roflol:

Some may remember Thomas Bowdler and 1807 "Family Shakespeare" where he edited Shakespeare to make it suitable for families, children and those of a delicate disposition.
There was a bit of a habit of doing this at the time and King Lear was rewritten to have a happy ending!
Now days Shakespeare is back as it was wrote, performed in all sorts of languages, stagings and castings.
Give it a while and Dahl and Blyton will be back in full.
