Some times it's goven by price,
was last year good year for cauliflowers??
It happens with wheat, barley and oil seed rape, they get a good year price why's then everybody next year plants alot more then floods the market but with corn it has to be bad to plough in back in

It's cheaper to plough it back in than havest veg's

You will also be surpised as to what is exported and imported, so times you will see ie: spuds going out then spuds coming back in
Wheat is imported and exported, even Mating Barley has been loaded on to a ship 4000 tons, the ship sailed got into international waters then turned around and sailed back to the same dock and unload and made lots of money

Same as usual, but neither myself nor anybody else is going to starve because of a shortage of salad ingredients.

I've recently developed a taste for spinach. I've never grown it though. I might try this year.

Bought some sweetcorn seeds today, dont really like it that much but its a plant I like growing.
Sounds stupid but I'll probably give most of it away.

Get some in early, and harvest early. Otherwise save your seed til July because it will run to seed. You might like Ethiopian Kale, which I find less likely to bolt.

You can also get "perpetual" spinach aka New Zealand spinach see Tetragonia tetragonioides - Wikipedia Chiltern Seeds among others have it.
My mother grew it for years in Lincolnshire in the 1980's
