New BBQ area

    I'm thinking about making a new area for a permanent BBQ. The area I have in mind isn't huge, about 3x3m, and I'm wondering what you'd put into an outside grill / kitchen? BBQ, obviously, plus what (if anything). I've pondered a pizza oven for example but really I'm just coming up with idea at the moment.
    I'm thinking something along the lines of a horseshoe shape with the work surface and BBQ built in to that.
    Very early ideas stage so anything is possible. And hopefully free :whistle:

    You say permanent BBQ Loofah. Are you thinking something brick built maybe?

    It very much depends whether you'll have electricity and water nearby. If you can incorporate them, an under-work-surface fridge and small sink are a God-send. Plus a cupboard of some sort for utensils. It also depends how far from your kitchen it will be. The further it is, the more useful it will be to keep dedicated crockery and cutlery nearby.

      That's right, it if not brick then something structural anyway.

      Hmm, that's one to ponder. I don't think I'll need a fridge as this location isn't that far from the kitchen. I did wonder about a sink but would probably opt for a removable bowl I can fill with water. Cupboards are definitely in the plan.

        This is very nebulous at the moment. I'll have to try a few doodles to see how it comes out....

          Why not use the kitchen to cook burgers etc. Add smoky sauce and burn the outside of sausages leaving them raw inside for the true bbq experience. At least you will be weather proofed.

                  I am thinking of having both a charcoal pit and a gas grill. If I manage to fit a sink and pizza oven that should take the space up I expect

                    Ah. The above post was actually just testing if I could copy / paste something from iPad…

                    I’ve had some ideas floating about now and made a few sketches that will in all likelihood bear no resemblance to whatever gets put in.

                      I have a wood fired pizza oven and if you can I'd advise getting a propane fired one. The Pizza Party ones are good, they are dual fuel. Mines a copy of them and I love to cook in it but gas is cleaner and easier and there's very little if any difference in flavour at pizza oven temperature.



                      Along similar lines I prefer a charcoal BBQ to propane, either something like a Weber kettle which is a classic and great all rounder for smoking etc or a kamodo. I ended up getting a Weber as I wanted the easy of moving it around, kamodos are very heavy. But if you have space, a propane grill as well would be ideal

                      Right, finally back in albeit slightly knackered. The area is a bit bigger than I thought at 3.7*3m and in one corner is a very established shrub (think it’s a dogwood of some sort) which is staying on pain of death. Mine specifically.
                      I’ll see if I can find an overhead shot to set it in context but these are the scribbles I’ve come up with. Variations on a theme really.
