Just watching the start of Wales v England, doubt I will watch the whole match because I dont understand it much, but they played "God save the King" as the English anthem before playing the Welsh anthem.

Isn't it about time England got there own anthem, why are they playing the anthem for the UK, for England?

    Just seems odd to me.
What's going on, if we are playing as separate countries why dont we have our own anthem like Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

The question is what would it be? Something traditional or do we get Elton John, Paul McCartney or Tim Rice to knock up something modern.

I's not English any more :roflol: But I apologise, that was below the belt. Have I told you about how the UK anthem originated, at least according to the French?
In 1686, Louis XIV was having problems with his bottom...(haemorrhoids). He prevaricated for months but finally underwent an operation which was successful. The court music Director created a piece of music to celebrate the King's recovery....which later mutated to become 'God Save The King'. Later on, quite a few European countries nicked it back in one form or another

The other countries make a lot more noise about being unique though. They have a fair point. While they're all British and have English as their official language, they have their own history, culture, and languages. They're also largely subject to decisions made in Westminster. I think it's fair enough that they get to express their own identity to some extent.

Elton John could do a modern take of an old song "Made in China"

I'm trying to get as many games in as allowed by the committee. I take myself away to the office and watch it in there, keeping out of trouble...

I have no problem with them expressing their own identity, but I thought England had its own identity as well, or at least it used to, but by playing the national anthem for the England team you are just reinforcing the fact that Westminster stands only for England and not the whole of the UK.

You should change it to something thats a bit more English focused imho.
And why o why do the English sing Sweet chariot, an African American hymn ? :noidea:
