And all they keep banging on about is climate change, of course the climate will change.
When I see what is going on its just not sustainable, but keep talking climate change its a bit more topical.:frown:

I remember my driving instructor years ago talking about the increased likelihood of flooding. He said of course flooding is more likely, they keep putting concrete and tarmac down on ground that used to absorb water.

I agree that constant development doesn't increase prosperity, at least for us ordinary folk. But I also think people have higher expectations these days. You rarely see new streets full of small terraced houses any more. Everyone expects a big semi or detached with private parking for two cars, a garage and gardens as their basic first home. When I was a kid it was only the poshies that had big houses. First time buyers got a rundown old shoe box, but nowadays it's a show home they're after.

(That said, my first and only house purchase was a good sized semi with gardens and private parking so who am I to criticise, but I only got it because I was lucky, it was cheap because it was a repo, and 20 grand less than the supposedly cheap terraces like I grew up in).

Most so called "affordable housing" tends to be in those three or four storey blocks they like to put up.
I often look at them and wonder what windows are what flat/house within the block or what door serves which house.
They are just a modern version of what they were chucking up in the 60s and are condemned today as unsuitable and the cause of crime.

Terraced housing is a luxury these days if you can afford it.

If the 300+ house estate that was thrown up on the playing field behind our former house was anything to go by, parking for 2 cars, a garage and anything more than a window box were undreamed-of luxuries! We were informed by the developers that people nowadays don't want big (any?) gardens, one (small) parking space is ample, and that the regs were about to change from 36 properties per hectare (10000m2) to 50. They were selling these rabbit hutches for £250k, and that was 16 years ago :yikes:. So, logically, in future, dwellings will incorporate the latest technology for talking to a robot, but no outside space apart from a tarmacked area with a recharging point :thud: Lovely!

Stupid estimated usage and carbon tax on the bill. For anyone who wants to see an actual bill for heating a home here for one month during the winter and this year it has, overall, been mild. The carbon tax is nasty $50. and then there is the "Cost adjustment" $32.98 added on to the usage and delivery and then the tax on the carbon tax and the rest. Sorry the image is fuzzy - the scan itself is lovely and clear but it must need to be shaved a bit to upload.
