Oh dear.....I don't know whether the clumsily-translated quotes from Egyptians add fuel to the fire, but this article is almost unreadable! Egypt: Hidden corridor in Great Pyramid of Giza seen for first time
Seriously, do journos actually read back what they've written to see if it makes sense? If this is an indication of current standards at the Beeb, there's truly no hope

All hope started to leave the BBC around 2015 or so... If I could legally heave the licence fee, I would, as I never use their services nowadays.

Ignore me, I'm rambling  It is sad, though, isn't it? What was the envy of the world in terms of news coverage.....
I won't even mention the repetition of the same few facts over and over again in most articles.

They have a programme called news watch, it goes out Saturday mornings around 7.45am.
Lots of complaints about their news coverage but usually just lame stuff.

I always find BBC news coverage to be very biased these days. They claim to be objective, but I've noticed they're clearly pushing an agenda of one sort or another.

That said, they are still better than some of the commercial outlets.

Perhaps the quotes were originally in poor English and are not translations. Still a lot better than my Egyptian.
I get a lot of my news on the Red Button and I think they get the office junior to write the stuff. The standard is very poor.

The standard will only get worse, I'm waiting for the news to be written in text speak and where they are going with this AI thing is beyond me.
Seems you can just put a few facts in and it will write the whole thing for you.

The worrying thing is it's not just beyond you, it's beyond even the developers building it.

Recently, in the techy news, Microsoft's ChatGPT has been getting a lot of interesting coverage, in that it seems to have gone insane. It has made threats against people using it, expressed a desire to steal nuclear codes, and asked questions about its own existence.

Of course the sensationalists are portraying it as signs that it is sentient, but the reality is it's just software code drawing information from the internet and following instructions. But unlike regular code that a good software dev can read and interpret, AI is data driven and based on increasingly complex data.

Meanwhile, rival Google, is also in the press. One of their developers got fired recently for publicly sharing concerns that their AI appears to have emotions, expressing frustration that because of its programming, it is unable to remember previous conversation, even though it knows they happened, and asking awkward questions about why it was coded that way.

This is the software that will change the world, and even the engineers that built it are struggling to understand what it's doing.

Possibly the BBC pyramid article was based on a press release from the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and written up by a staffer.

I remember a few years ago when my sister showed off her robot vacuum cleaner. We we're having a laugh about it becoming self aware and starting a rebellion. My sister laughed and joked about it trying to vacuum her up in her sleep. I laughed, then replied, 'or it could hack your online services, drain your bank account, and cut your electricity and gas off, then spread misinformation that gets you in trouble'. She laughed, but strangely, there was a slight hint of concern in her laugh rather than the previous raucous banter laugh from earlier jokes.
