Relatively minor thing, but irritating. Flipped through a booklet from a small local chain of garden centres. All the furniture, bird feeders, tools, composts, fertilisers etc all had prices and offers, however plants which were mentioned throughout no prices at all. Two vouchers at the back one for a free tumbling tom and the other for a reduced nemesia were the only indication they just might sell plants.

I think you can see where the biggest profits are, but for those that actually go there the cafe is the best money maker.
          Plants are just a sideline.

Ooooo...I don't usually bother with the BBC but thought I'd better have a gander at the budget good news, as our pensions depend on HMG. Just love this bit about a lady commenting on the scrapping of invalidity assessment....
" Susan - a 63-year-old Londoner who has an autoimmune disease, spinal and bowel conditions says the reform is "a good thing for people who can work" but asks how they will determine who can and cannot work?
"A lot of people are too disabled to work. For example, with my autoimmune disease if I’m in a public setting, I could pick up an infection, therefore I cannot work."
Ah right...she's not heard of teleworking, then? :gaah:

            And this??? "
Wages stagnant for many year, after year, after year.

Income tax going up for millions as the thresholds remain the same and wages rise." Uh?

              I'm being thick, what's HMG.

I wish they had put up the tax threshold on pension payments to £60,000 a year when I was working, it would have made a big difference for me, I dont think.

TBH, I've not paid much attention to the budget, first the good news, the energy cap is held at that imaginary figure of £2,500 per year, then the bad news , you lose the £66 a month off your bill, consequence, the price is going UP.

His Majesty's Government  It wasn't really the content of the Budget that got to me...just the stupid comments and glaring illogicality. (Is that a word??)

We went out to dinner tonight with Mrs L's sister and brother in law; after ordering drinks we asked for the vegetarian menu they had clearly forgotten to give us (the sister is a veggie). Cue blank stares.
The starters were all lettuce based and the mains all grilled meats; there were no other options and after asking the best they could do was a heated up macaroni cheese.
I'm not vegetarian but this annoyed and astonished me, and the attitude of the staff was awful. So we left.
I'm staggered that there are restaurants charging big bucks not to offer veg options! The place we left had one other table with people, the place we went to across the road was heaving so pretty clear what's more successful.

I thought most restaurants had got out of that idea that if it isn't meat based its not a main meal, but there does seem to be a few that cling to that idea.
Not being a big meat eater myself I've often struggled over the years with eating out.
I'm not a vegetarian but have never really liked the texture or taste of meat, don't ask me why, I just don't understand what people see in it.
I've usually gone for fish, but there are usually only a few fish options compared to ten or fifteen meat options.
As I said not vegetarian and often the vegetarian options sound fairly tasteless.

I'm a devout carnivore but do have to be careful where I buy in order to get something worthwhile.

Mrs Shiney tends to prefer non meat meals and usually has no trouble finding interesting veggie meals in a restaurant.

This restaurant was just weird. When I say the starters were all lettuce, they were all literally different types of lettuce with various accompaniments. The mains all being heavily meaty and that's it. They advertise themselves as an Italian! The only Italian thing on the menu was parmesan cheese.
It opened in Dec '21 and has already changed hands and is, I would expect, about to close.

Phoned for a docs appointment yesterday and was told none are available, I only wanted to speak to him. They said they will get in touch when some appointments become available.

Got a text message this morning, 21st April.:rolleyespink:
