Thought it was just us , but as mentioned its too fast to follow, you have to stop, rewind and replay bits of that video to extract the details you want to look at.

Some of those Settings can be applied for everyday use , but some are really for more confidential use like online banking etc. though the bottom line, its often down to the user making some mistake, afraid we all do it at some time.

Just in the process of updating a friends laptops but in a way surprised, but equally not surprised, that they were using the default Admin accounts , not doing any system backups or running extra malware programs like MalwareBytes or SuperAntiSpyware etc.

I'm thinking of doing the same as Ad's are showing more, i did look at it but when started to download it it asked for access to my machine so i stop it, question is do i have to let Ublock have access to use it?

      this is for Firefox

I think you do Jiffy, you always get these worrying messages when downloading something.
I just accepted it and suddenly it was there an active.

I assume you can get it for firefox , I'm on chrome and it was classed as an extension.

Are you installing Ublock direct from within Firefox eg Menu, Add Ons, Extensions ?

You should see a message like this, which is saying it wants permission to access the web sites you are visiting, which is what it needs to do to block the ads.

If its asking to "access your whole machine", that does not sound right, though a while since I loading Ublock in.

I've got a small icon up the top of the screen where I can turn it on and off and do other things Jiffy.

Yes, always wise to hold back if unsure !

Its the words following - " for all web sites" that matter in this case.

Ublock been around for some years and always recommended by the computer press etc. so as safe as anything these days .

We would be more concerned about what data the likes of Google, Microsoft, Amazon/Alexa etc etc are collecting without your direct consent.

Lots of good security info here along with its active forum, some of it understandable at our level but some can leave us lost

They are there to make you pay for premium to stop adds.

Thanks, @ricky101, for that link. It's been years since I visited it & it's now unrecognisable!

I've been using uBlock Original on my computers for some years. I have never had any problems with it. It naturally asks permission to view the webpages you visit, if you didn't allow it it wouldn't be able to do its job! It won't do anything else on your computer as it's a browser based app that can't access your machine. I wouldn't be without it!

I haven't installed a specific adblocker for YouTube as I hardly use it. Even when I do I don't see ads popping up! Yet when I enabled an account for my youngest grandson on Tuesday I saw he was watching Mario videos on YouTube & from time to time ads flashed across the screen. I will have to go into his account & set up FireFox properly so that ads are no longer shown when he goes on YouTube.

Must admit I've not tried You tube since down loading uBlock but assumed the ads were imbedded in the videos.

Turned on the laptop this morning and after a slow start I get this screen, I find this kind of thing annoying.
No option of turning it off, nearest you get to that is, "remind me later. DSC03698.JPG "

Its because its done one of the bigger half yearly updates.

The slow start is when its completing the download /installation and now wants you to confirm any changes.

It takes less than a minute and we reply use the Skip or No boxes to most of its screens, but that depends on how and what you use.

If you take time to look into the details of the update will find some extra features or Apps have been added, though probably like us they will not be of interest /use to you.
