I agree. We buy them in smaller packets to try and control our addiction ;).

Stupid price in Tesco. 200g for £2.75 or 300g for £3.

Are they trying to say this situation wasn't foreseeable and people haven't been banging the drum about it for decades?! Bloody government, utility companies and councils all responsible for this, not the customers.

The cashew nut is a bit odd as it's actually a pseudofruit stuck on the bottom of the real fruit (cashew apple) which has a kernel inside it.
The cashew plant is related to Poison Ivy and contains similar skin irritants, so growing and harvesting cashews can be a bit tricky.
                  Might help explain the price.

They're fascinating to see when they're on the tree.

The fruit can be eaten fresh or cooked but needs careful handling as it is the skin that contains the poison/irritant (the amount of irritant depends on the age of the fruit).

In some countries they make a liqueur out of the fruit. For that the fruit needs to be very ripe, usually judged by having dropped off the tree, before pressing. The old traditional way used to be pressing by feet similar to the old way of making wine. The juice can be drunk as juice, can be a bit acidic, or then distilled into the liqueur. I wasn't keen on the taste of the fruit or the juice. :noidea:

I was amazed when I found out that you only get the one nut from one fruit.
And to find they are not related to peanuts.

@JJ28 We've seen them in a number of countries but they were more intensively farmed when we were in Zanzibar and Fortaleza, Brazil. Although we bought the tastiest brazil nuts in the street market in Salvador, Brazil.

This slightly faded photo is one I took in the market in Salvador over 40 years ago :old:

Peanuts are legumes in the same family as peas and beans. The actual peanut pods grow underground, hence why they are also called groundnuts.

Yesterday they finally got round to grilling Boris about his party events 2 years ago.
Now they say we might get their verdict on him before the summer holiday. This is just taking too long and I hate to think how much it's all costing.

The lawyers and media make plenty of money from these long drawn out inquests, they keep spinning them out as long as the public keep buying newspapers and tuning into the bbc news. For me I couldn't care less, it's far too late to do anything now. There is never any conclusive end to anything like this.
