It goes a bit deeper than just having a view, though, doesn't it? Noise, traffic, pollution...they all contribute enormously to the stresses of daily living. It's bad enough being crammed in like sardines but very few places in UK seem to be spared some sort of development or other. For the first few years of living in our idyllic valley, I became totally paranoid at the mere sight of a JCB doing anything in the vicinity, convinced that a housing estate would be springing up, or a nuclear power station or worse. I've calmed down now  but I do so sympathise with anyone in UK faced with these threats to a (relatively) peaceful existence!

I don't think there is a planning department anywhere in Britain that operates with the best interests of the public in mind.

The proposed sub station closest to me that's planned will not be within eye or earshot of where I live. It will be accessed by the road I live on which is a one track country road with passing places. Parts of this road are already almost impassable for cars, having been destroyed over 18 months by logging lorries using it as access to another area.

Good morning just an update

Sasha White KC Vineyards Farms Barrister said that the company has planted 70% of the land it owns and has committed to planting a further 8000 vines by 2026 which aligns with its vision to startan"English wine revolution"and "putting English wine on the map"

He explained that the company was on a "agricultural ticking clock"and that if planning permission was refused Vineyard Farms would construct a new winery through

All the emphasis of opposition parties is to relax planning so they can build onshore wind farms and millions more houses.
              The outlook is grim.

On taking a couple of pleasure flights locally a few years ago I was amazed how much undeveloped land there is in Kent.
The problems are that the green land is mostly private or farmland.
All the building takes place along existing roads, so when driving anywhere you get the impression the place is overcrowded.
It is, but only for those of us who are not millionaires.

Where I live (Thanet) there are a number of small villages, with the amount of house building going on now, soon Thanet will be one big area.

It's sad to see the fields that were once growing crops turning into housing estates.

Well as @pete said in an earlier post grapes are a crop which to be honest I had never thought about and they have kept the footpaths open although the footpath signs have all been thrown away so we can still walk through them and the Billionair who owns them will make sure (hopefully) that they at least will never be built on;)

I googled permitted development rights to check I'd understood it correctly.

                      Here it is.
Permitted development rights for householders: technical guidance

Doesn't sound like a loophole for significant developments. It's about modifying your house in a way that is too trivial to bother the planning department with. Or at least that's the case for most of us. I guess if someone has enough spare money to pay the best solicitors, while simultaneously making cash donations to a charity of the chief planning officer's choice, then they can probably do whatever they want.
