WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2023

So pleased you wrote that @Logan re cosmos. Was looking at mine earlier and wondered if I had sown too much yet again. Clearly not and we all need thousands of them in every shape and colour. Wish I was as organised as you and could prick more out but there are so many in trays that I don’t have the space.

 

That's the trouble @Dahlia Queen we can over do it. I grow mine on the conservatory floor because i don't have a greenhouse, but have a grow house that i can transfer some that are not eaten by the slugs and snails, like the marigolds and the eurigeron.
Sometimes it's just timing everything.

 

Wow, that looks super organised. I have taken over back porch for loads of potted lily and cannas but not put anything in conservatory yet. I could use that like you do and sow yet more cosmos…….

 

I've been tidying my cacti and succulents in the greenhouse.
Gave the mealy bugs a little drink of meths

 

Thank you @Dahlia Queen I've got 3 pots of lilies and they're outside in the back garden by the house. Every year i write down on a calendar to see for the next year if i need to change it. My conservatory has a flat roof so have to be careful of not starting too early.

 

Here's how I sowed my Cosmos last month ...

 

It's less than 10 deg out there but Cosmos have done their daily outing anyways. It's nearly spring!

Otherwise, plenty of potting ons have been done and the thug of Aloe Aristata in my communal succulent planter has been de-babied and obtrusive parts have been pulled off.

Aristata is a football plant, it thrives anywhere any time, and looks quite nice. Unfortunately, it is a thug especially in a cactus bowl so annual pruning is needed.

Pruning amongst Cacti is a delicate sport, now my hands are full of invisible thorns and the Aristata balm that is plentiful and apparently wonderful for healing burns. Sadly, it doesn't appear to heal embedded cactus thorns

 

Not done anything today.

 

I've been pricking out petunias and verbena today . Sowed some more seeds its not been a good year for seedling this year for me poor germination etc . Sowed a pot of cosmos myself just some frizzy picotee ones. I've taxed the bike today it gone up a lot the rotten B , anyway I be doing a round trip tomorrow of the garden centres Cosmos Apricot lemonade seeds are my must get list .

Some relatives turned up today so some plants were enforced on to them one wanted some Alliums they were going to buy some from larch cottage ( live near there ) £££££ would of cost a bomb there for 1 bulb in a pot so they got a whole 5litre pot full of allium purple rain instead which grow like weeds here . Of course they lefted with other plants I try and fill the car up while they are trying to leave

 

I planted my second Potato Bag.

 

I reworked the hanging baskets on the North Side of The Jungle Room.
