Watered everything in greenhouse. Potted on 4 new dahlia tubers (more presents last night)
Did lots of weeding (2 brown wheelie bins full plus some in compost heap) and finally took out most of the dead twigs and stalks in the borders which I had been leaving in place for as long as possible (advice from Butterfly Conservation)
Saw red admiral and peacock butterfly and loads of ladybirds. Red kite overhead, but couldn't get a photo in time. Got one of the blue sky instead which I will attach as it is rare recently to see any blue isn't it.

Potting on some Surfinia. Biodegradeable pots will go straight into baskets when bigger.

Just planted my onion sets, the ground was surprisingly workable after all the rain last week.

Prepared a patch for my broad beans, I weeded the garlic after the picture. DSC03781.JPG

Dug over leek bed, planted row of peas, dug up the few remaining parsnips. Then dug out runner bean trench.

Did another check on the seedlings in the greenhouse. Not only were they left to fend for themselves for a few days but they had to cope with nippy nights too.

Found a few more Dahlias that were damaged this winter .They were left in the ground, all had some parts that are undamaged so I've removed the bad tubers and have crossed my fingers.:fingers crossed:

Finally finished dismantling the temporary conservatory. It's much earlier this year because I'm not going to run the risk of the pests getting a hold like they did last year.
Starting shifting the recently-acquired mulch onto the borders in the hope that it will smother the annual grass but not the ground-cover plants. The ground's unusually dry for the time of year, but hopefully the mulch will retain what moisture there is.
Trying very hard to appreciate what's flowering and leafing up instead of only seeing the weeds

Yesterday I got a bag of Cacti & Succulent compost delivered. Our granddaughter was spending most of the day with us & she wanted to know why I wanted it. I told her I wanted to repot the half a dozen Cacti I have. She immediately wanted to help me! [IMG] In fact she ended up doing much more than I did! I got them out of the pots & gave her a few directions but mostly she wouldn't let me do anything! [IMG] She's used to helping her dad! She did very well! She will be coming tomorrow for most of the day as well & we will (she will!) - repot the succulents I have using the new compost! [IMG]
