Photographer Daniel Biber from Hilzingen, Germany was trying to capture the murmuration of starlings for 4 days when he finally succeeded: he didn't realize the starlings had created a giant bird in the sky until he got home and reviewed the pictures.

This is going to sound new age hippie like, but I promise I'm just an ordinary boring middle aged bloke.

There's a very old tree in the grounds of a medieval church not far from me. Occasionally if I'm in the area I go to see it, mostly just because it's awesome. It's trunk must be at least ten foot thick. I sometimes just stand next to it for a few moments and let my mind wander and imagine what it would have seen, if trees could see. I visualise the small church in the middle of farmland and wild countryside, and a village growing around it, the land being taken over as farmland, the small village growing into a larger village, roads being laid, the large village turning into a town, the horses and carts slowly being replaced by the first motor cars, hard working poor folks giving way to wealthy folks that now live there because it's nice, not because it's near the farms, and those early motor cars being replaced by Tesla's and big Audis. I almost imagine it as a stop motion montage of about a millennium condensed into a few seconds.

In the 80s I went to see the redwoods in Sequoia national park, one morning early I walked off on my own and stood among 4 of the giants growing fairly close together.
I've never felt so insignificant in my life, its a strange feeling that you just cant explain.

I like to get right up on the moors from time to time in dubious weather, looking for exactly this feeling.
