My garden shredder has seen better days and now need constant attention to get good performance out of it. It's ok but I really want proper chipped results so has anyone got a proper chipper that's recommended?
I'm after electric which I appreciate limits choice and chipped output good for mulch or composting

    I've got a Bosch one.
It really depends on the size of the material you want to chip, as you say you want an electric one I assume it's mostly for prunings, mine goes up to about 2inches in diameter, but I don't think I'd want to use it on that size of material all the time.

That's the main drawback I'm seeing - limited diameter of prunings. I guess most stuff over 2" can be sawn or lopped up to burn or stack somewhere but the chipped output is a must

Yes I stack stuff that is too big for my chipper, got a few mounds now, not a problem if you have the space.

Of course the other drawback is the time it takes to put it all through, but it's very satisfying when a big pile turns into a small pile of really useful stuff.

Just a thought, if chips are a must, why not just store it all until you have a large enough quantity to hire a chipper. Does any of your neighbours want shot of any branches, so you get even more chips or share the hire cost.

I have thought of it but I like to do it just as and when. Plus I'd have to have a huge pile to justify it and I don't really want that building up in a corner of the garden

My dad had a billhook on a peg in the shed but I don't think it ever got used. They're just the job for splitting the thinnish stuff
