I understand gall mites are more prevalent in the south of England. I haven't seen any on my Fuchsias at all. I suppose it depends where you got them from.

I saw gall mite damage towards the end of last summer for the first time.
I think you might need really good eyesight to spot the mites before they cause the damage and confirm their presence.

I should add, I've not bought new fuchsias for years, I only grow a couple of plants that I've had for years.

Yep, everywhere in Portsmouth. Outside growing fuchsias affected stay ugly from the autumn time, they never recover, look scary in the spring.

I presume they are evergreen down near the south coast?
I always chop down to the ground during winter when leaf less so I'm not sure how they overwinter.

I've been growing Fuchsias on the balcony almost the 20 odd years we've lived here. Never see gall mite damage on mine or on others around town either. I have seen hardy Fuchsia bushes die in a couple of years but no idea if the mite was responsible or something else. One died in the gardens of my church a couple of years back. It had been growing there very happily since before I started attending 15 years ago.
