The last time I used a kiosk was when a machine took my money but didn't print a ticket. The kiosk moron insisted that was impossible so I had to buy another ticket. I claimed the money back when I got my bank statement but had to jump through hoops for several weeks.

I use an app now and just flash the phone at the exit turnstile. Can't say I really trust it but so far it's worked.

That's ridiculous! You've got more patience than me. I'd have interrupted at 11h28 pointing out that I needed tickets asap.

I would have just gotten on the train and bought the ticket from the conductor. That is what happens here as some stations don't have a ticket office.

There's signs up everywhere round here saying you'll get a 'penalty fair' if you don't buy a ticket in advance. I think that's just a way to make sure people pay now they hardly ever even check tickets any more.

I never use the rail but I do remember something along the lines that you can't buy tickets on the train anymore.

They have tightened up on fare dodgers so in England you get an immediate penalty fine if you don't have a valid ticket. There have been cases where passengers got fined because they had a discounted ticket but weren't carrying their railcard. It seems petty.

Yes they state you must have a valid ticket and carry your railcard too ,it you have one. I have never been asked to show my railcard though....but it's guaranteed that if I don't have it ..they'll ask for it!! Having said that it's on my phone so I'll always have it on me.:blue thumb:

Why do you need a rail card and a ticket?

I can't remember the last time I used public transport in this country and don't think I shall be using it ever again.

Have used it in other countries with no problem at all, buy a ticket, get on and go. :noidea: Whether it's trains, boats, busses, rickshaws, camel carts or donkey carts, they have all been easy.

I've never understood the railways and how you buy tickets.
It all seemed so complicated when I last went to London years ago.
I think you bought an underground ticket at the same time, but that was all in zones, I just ended up with what I was given.
How I would have got sorted using a machine I don't know.
