I just think that if they started putting down injured jockeys in the same way they do the horses then things would change.;)

Aparently 2 others were injured and taken away but their fate is unknown atm. I wonder if they will also end up as dog food.

I did see one loose horse smash through the white fence.

There were horses everywhere and loose ones all over, apparently the one that died on the course was in the crush at the first fence, which is why they all went round the side of that fence on the second time round.

Of course the owner said the only reason it died was because the race was held up for 15 minutes due to protesters and the horse was in a frenzy, also it had been round the course twice before so it knew what it was doing.

I dont like protesters that cause trouble, a peaceful protest would have been better.

I am not sure, but I think there is a new law to end the practice of sending race horses to the abattoir. Horses that are trained to enter races have to be signed out of the food chain in the passport. When signed out of the food chain for human consumption they are automatically signed out of all the food chain, so I doubt the meat could end up in the pet food sector.

Probably burnt in a field then, I only said that because a friend had her horse put down and she said it went for pet food as that was the easiest and cheapest way of actually getting rid of the carcase.

Maybe race horses have too many chemicals pumped into them.

I used to go to the dog races for a night out. I lost interest completely one time when the race was on, the hounds were off like lightning, then one of them crashed into another, and several dogs literally flipped through the air. Most of the dogs were fine and continued the race as soon as they'd stopped tumbling. But one dog got up and immediately fell back down. It picked itself up and tried to continue but it was wobbling around all over the place. People seemed to appear out of the shadows with a big net, rapidly caught the poor dog, and scooped it off somewhere never to be seen again. The race commentator didn't even falter in his commentary, completely glossing over the incident as though nothing unusual had happened.

I've never been to the dog races since.

I heard the TV commentator say yesterday after they had cleared the protesters, Lots of sports are dangerous but we dont stop boxing etc.

With a mentality like that I dont think you stand a chance regarding animal welfare.

If the veterinary bills are so expensive for injured horses then the abattoir will be the first place they end up at. Panorama's investigation found as many as 4000 former race horses were sent to the abattoir in an 18 month period from 2019, so you can sort of understand why they protested like they did.

Lots of these kinds of "sport" are pretty sick once you delve into them deeply.
So much money involved and wealthy people that they have the ability to hush up the dark side of it all.

I heard that too. The first thing that sprung to mind is the obvious, that boxing and such are all done by choice of the participants. The horses don't make that choice.

If the guy had adapted his point slightly it would have left a very different message. Imagine if he'd said instead, boxing is dangerous but it doesn't stop us making our kids do it.

My friend didn't send her horse to the abattoir, the vet shot it in the field and a company came and picked up the carcase.
I dont think she could have sent him for slaughter as such.

To go to the abattior they have to be walking good heath no drugs/ clean (not covered in muck)(this is cows) etc, you can have a injurted cow go to abattior from a farm, buts it has to be shoot by vet then bleed quickly and ASP on farm and transpoted to abattior ASP as the blood will make the meat go black then worthless, any which have died for a long time then they go the the burner, i would have thought a horse would be the same for human and dog meat

CATARACTS I have them, the optician said I need them removed as they are so bad
                  That was two years ago
Six months ago I was called from the waiting list for an assesement
                  Yes I need both replaced
Five weeks ago I was having surgery, they said which Eye first, it was agreed to be my right Eye
It all went brilliantly, no pain, no uncomfort, done in fifteen minutes and home within 30 minutes
with instructions to visit my optician within four weeks, for test, which I had today
                  replacement lens was perfect,
They told me to speak to the optician about my other Eye which was now worse than when I was refered two years ago
I said to the optician that they were going to do my other Eye on her report
The optician said No if they were going to do your other Eye, they would have given you a Red envelope not this brown one
The hospital said you have done the wait list, then we examined you and took the measurements required which was the eighteen months wait, now after that examination in about six months you are on the operation list which is around six months, and your follow up would be a further two months for the second op
To be honest the change is fantastic, three times brighter, richer colours, the grass is green the sky is blue it is is brilliant
Though I can not believe I am back in the two year queue again

                    Can't you complain Jack?

My mam had hers done a year or so ago. Like you. They did one eye first. But they told her the reason they don't do both at the same time is because of the extremely low risk of it going wrong, so that she'd still have some vision even in the unlikely event of complications. She had the other done a few weeks later.
