I was going to put this in the 'Moan moan' thread but I'm happy because I have upset British Gas :roflol:

They messed up my account for the third time and haven't been taking my monthly direct debits this time. They said that the DD hasn't been set up so I gave them a screen shot of them having confirmed it was.

Oh, they said, we'll set it up again and I agreed . All done but they wanted to increase it as they haven't taken anything for three months. I refused and told them I will change it when I see fit and they agreed. I have a copy of the 'chat'.

I enjoy telling off big organisations :loll:

My mum is with British gas. One time she got a bill running into multiple thousands, complete with breakdown of the number of units used.

I enjoyed taking that on for her, because I know a thing or two about electricity, particularly Ohm's law.

I must admit I did feel a bit sorry for the girl in the call centre, who was only trained to believe what she saw on the computer screen, and simply couldn't comprehend the mathematical calculations I was quoting that demonstrated that for the number of units allegedly used over the period in question, the house would have had to have had an average current draw in the tens of thousands of amps, and even discounting the fact that at that current draw the cables to the house would have melted, if somehow she had managed to achieve that current draw, her house would have simply blew up.

After some to'ing and fro'ing, my mum eventually got a revised bill for less than a hundred quid for that month.

It annoys me that for some people, even if they don't understand the maths and physics, they should still have common sense. But seeing as this isn't the moan thread, I celebrate the fact that we got it put right.

Another really happy thing from our point of view is that we appear to be on the way to a record year for our solar panels producing electricity. :yahoo: We have had a very sunny start to the year and pollarding our willow tree has also helped.

As we use a lot of electricity, although we have tried cutting down, it is certainly helping. :hapydancsmil:

Nationwide building society is currently offering 5% on an instant access savings account, but it's not quite as good as it sounds. You have to be a current account with them, and you can only put a max of 50 quid per month in. It's worth knowing about if you're actively saving, but no good for anyone looking to move existing savings to.

Gardener's World May issue with 2 for1 discount card for garden visits and both Belsay Hall and Alnwick Castle gardens we regularly visit are on the list! Plus, we found a couple of others just a short bus hop away, definitely worth visiting. :hapydancsmil:

Actually it was quite funny, yesterday on my first day off we did the mandatory shopping-and-getting-hair-cut visit to local shopping centre but Morrisons didn't have the May issue!

Crestfallen, The Child comforted me in the store (probably concerned that I'll have a tantrum or as my sister in law describes it, "making an X on the floor") and all the way home, and complimented me on how bravely I met the disappointment. She promised that on Monday we'll visit Asda and surely the will have the May issue.

And today, after a two hours long walk in the lovely Jesmond Dene, we popped into Lidl for Friday gaming night treats (and just a quick glance at the plants ) and lo behold, what beamed a heavenly light across the till area?

Since buying my new-to-me car the rear wiper has juddered something terrible. Washing the window and the blade didn't help. Today, despite it being overcast, cold and windy I removed the blade, washed it, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol the wiped it with silicone lubricant. I then washed the screen and polished it with Autoglym Glass cleaner. And low and behold, it no longer judders. Happy days.

Are you sure silicon is good on car windows, will it not go smeared when wet.

                      From hella-wiperblades.com

By learning how to soften windshield wiper blades, you can keep the blade smooth by treating the rubber lip with a special rubber care product or silicone spray about four times a year. This not only increases its lifetime, but also its sliding properties, which avoids squeaking and stops the wiper rubbing. (my underline)

I was of the same thought as you but as I was only using it on the rear screen I decided to risk it. It didn't smear at all. I used WD-40 44722 Specialist High-Performance Silicone Lubricant.

Interesting @Jocko , I usually get problems with my wipers after a long dry spell, no problem at the moment.. But will try this if I get the grating noises.
Have you tried it on the windscreen at night?
Its often the headlights coming the other way that show up these greasy problems.

The wipers at the front are perfect so no. I remember using Rain X once and after a few days, it became a nightmare with a streaky screen at night.
I try to avoid driving after dark these days. What with old eyes and the onset of cataracts (don't worry, even my worst eye, on its own, is good enough to pass the eyesight test according to my Optometrist), I find driving in the dark very stressful.

I only find driving in the dark stressful these days because some cars seem to have badly adjusted and over bright dip headlights.

I could probably guess the age of an on coming car these days, just by seeing the headlights coming at me.
