To the right of the pot Vicky? Hellebore, it's nearly all Hellebores and Heucheras with a few other plants dotted around.

 

What do you think of Geraniums, upright with trailing around in the pot?

 

Yes I was considering Geraniums ( as I have loads!!!) ,with maybe Bacopa . I also have dwarf Snap Dragons too, they did very well last year and lasted ages. Oh decisions, decisions.....


Another thought was the Hydrangea cutting from my parents garden....I was wondering if keeping it in a pot would force the plant to become ' miniature ' so to speak. I wouldn't mind that at all so long as it remained healthy.

What would you think?

 

Cutting grass and raking grass and cutting grass and raking grass. There's a lot of it! Also, a little bit of weeding and stuck a few plants into pots.

 

I love Hydrangeas so yes to that with perhaps the Bacopa around it?

 

As I was cleaning the carpets in our bedroom & the entrance hall today I didn't have much time to spend gardening. Nevertheless I found 15 mins to have a wander around the balcony looking at the progress of the plants I have & to see if they needed watering. I then made 3 or 4 journeys back & forth carrying 2lt bottles of water x4 to water the trays of Calendula seedlings, (which are doing very well), the tray of African Marigold seedlings (which have germinated after I made a 2nd sowing), & most of the pots of Geraniums which are flowering on the middle bar of the balcony railings. I also gave the pots of Daffodils & Hyacinths some water too. Ended up spending half an hour on the balcony.

It has been raining non stop since last night, so a perfect afternoon to plant the Sweet Peas around the rose obelisk.

Getting wise in my advancing years, I swapped my usual Saturday outfit of relaxed loungewear (baggy old trackie bottoms ) for my waterproof walking trousers, already conveniently mudded, donned my waterproof jacket and headed outdoors.

Came back in and changed my bedroom slippers for the gardening clogs.

The Sweet Peas went in nicely with three to spare, they went in the niche between the hedge and the gate. We only use half of the gate for gateish purposes so hopefully the peas will grow to delight passer bys.

Ready to seek shelter from the rain I just quickly potted on a miniature rose seedling and noticed that the windowsill cucumbers were desperate for potting on too.

Back to the garage to play with compost, mud and water. Then I remembered the Artichokes that were desperately in need of attention too, and potted them on. At that point I was muddy at all extremities and wet through to the skin in unexpected places around my person. A quick look at the care label told me that the waterproof trousers were "rain resistant" rather than waterproof. No mention of mudproofness.

Then our Tesco grocery delivery arrived and the driver had great fun in making very witty comments on the lovely weather and so on. He stopped short of asking if the mud coated cavewoman grumpily grabbing the groceries was perhants planning to go out tonight.

Anyways, got the jobs done and in fact wet April garden smells and feels lovely.

It has stopped raining now.

 

Nothing today i went to see my friend Marion and her partner Barry.

Well done Selleri; don't be put off by a splash or too of rain; the rain must have passed us during the night heading towards you; we too had a good soaking with puddles everywhere but it eased then ceased around 9 o'clock this morning.

The CCTV engineer arrived just after 9 o'clock spending the morning installing the CCTV upgrade finishing at dinner time.

After dinner I headed up the garden with spade and digging bar and attacked tree roots then I thought I'll have a go with the petrol rotavator;


There's still a small tree stump in the top left area which will come out next session but I'm over the moon now able to see the end of so much hard work; once the top left area is rotavated and the area raked I'll finally broadcast wildflower seeds and walk away from this area of garden to let nature take over; the grass can then be tidied and edges strimmed.

I'm tired but happy and shortly I'll wander into the studio for a violin practice; an excellent day in spite of such a dismal wet start.

Lots of weeding, planted sweet peas outside, finished sowing sunflowers outside and gazed at some of my cosmos, flowering in greenhouse, waiting to be planted out. And spent time with my lovely chickens.

Hi,

It's been incredibly hard work creating the new middle wildflower meadow considering just over a year ago it had 9 very tall trees sitting on it; the trees; stumps & roots are finally gone the meadow now complete awaiting nature to to take care of the wildflower seeds I broadcast this morning.

With more rain forecast for this afternoon I was up the garden very early this morning removing the last tree stump and roots then I rotavated before broadcasting the seeds completing the job at last.


Who would ever have thought very tall trees were in this middle section only a year ago.

It looks a small area from a distance but my aching bones found it plenty big enough.


The trees are now gone.

This was heavy work felling and disposing of the trees there were 15 in total but now I'm not worried every time the wind blows and I'm pleased I took the hard difficult way in removing the stumps and roots too; job done at last but now onto the next job of pressure washing our pathways and driveway etc; I'm being idle this afternoon catching up on messages.

I'd like to thank the Met Office for their forecast of rain this afternoon which actually is brilliant sunshine as I type and so far not a drop of rain; I worked like mad this morning to complete the work but I never learn; I don't know why I bother looking at our weather forecast when the best thing to do is simply look out of the window.

Another very hard day but something to show for it.
