Nice to have a 'working' greenhouse as ours was attacked by something the day before yesterday and a roof pane smashed! No stone or dead bird, or even feathers, NOTHING in fact !! Could it be the old frame twisting?
Anyway I've spent the morning (3 hours) trying to find a trades person to come and fix it!! I eventually put my "job" on a couple of sites that fix you up and have been getting àll kinds of building firms sending me details of what they do!! Eventually found a local bloke who installs greenhouses who seemed interested, BUT ..... he was up a ladder and would give me a ring ..... LATER!!!
I used to be able to do simple jobs myself, but as my mam used to say, "growing old isn't much fun!"

Just discovered a part full milk carton in amongst our sweet peas! Got to be from a frustrated person who tried to get through my property from the square behind to the road beyond. First time in 40 years so not too worried! All the gates and fences we put up to keep our visiting dog in place!! Perhaps our own dog would work???

Been a bit rash and planted half a dozen toms outside. They're getting bubble wrap duvets for the next few nights. Found photos from this time last year; I had five-foot plants with big green fruits! Fed up of this slooooow Spring.

My tomatoes (and also peppers and cucumber) need repotting - they are still in the small pots I bought them in.
What size pots should I use ? I'm never sure if I should put them in big pots straight away, or repot them into slightly larger pots several times.

I think it's best to pot them on in stages. Peppers and cucumbers don't like being in soggy soil and that can happen if they are in too big a pot. Cucumbers may get stem rot and peppers just stall.

Tomatoes are more forgiving but I wait till they have flowers and better still the first fruit before going into a big pot or the ground. Otherwise they make lots of vegetative growth at the expense of fruit. Keeping them in a small pot restricts their root growth and triggers them to flower.

All my pricked out Tom's (and flowers!) doing well and looking very healthy! Must be the symbiotic root material I put a pinch of in each planting hole as the compost I used hardly top notch! So thanks to whoever it was from 'management' who mentioned that he did this, and set me thinking!
My greenhouse installer will be arriving tomorrow to 'quote' me for replacing smashed pane, so expect me to be telling you that I'm having my old greenhouse replaced by a new sparkling one, as sure "repairs not really economical"!!!

A very odd-looking first inflorescence on my Dark Stripe Micro (multiflora). I've not grown a micro multi before so I'm not sure what "normal" is, but I really can't see how these have the potential to develop into viable fruits. I' IMG_20230512_133445.jpg m tempted to cut it off and wait for the next one to develop.

Got mine planted in the greenhouse today. The six that had the fungal attack seem to be recovering, I've stripped off all the affected leaves and buried them deep, only the healthy upper leaves above the soil.

I’d be tempted to leave them be.

Rooting some side shoots as back-up in case of disaster. Hopefully, they'll just end up as giveaways on the village Facebook page. IMG_20230513_063457.jpg
