Geraniums (not Pelargoniums) may work there. I also have a little spreading rockery plant with a big name that you might like. Unfortunately I don't have enough at the moment to offer you any. It's Chiastophyllum Oppositifolium, the flower stems grow to about 6 inches and it flowers in June.

Some Geraniums are clump forming but others put out runners coming up everywhere and a nightmare to get rid of. Geraniums are available in shades of blue, pink and white.

This one below has moved house with me more than once. It's clump forming but grows 2-3ft across.

It is indeed a Gyrfalcon. Owned by a falconer that puts on a display at Dunrobin Castle.

UPDATE - now that I've sorted my mind out. Which takes time, believe me  ... I know I said I didn't like tubs and pots but I think really that's going to be the answer here. My son will make wooden planters to any size, so I think a few biggish square ones would be best. I could do grass in one; rockery stuff in one; summer flowers in one etc. So I want to thank everybody who helped me when I was dittering :rolleyespink:
esp Sheal and Clueless who were very patient :spinning:

You might need patience. This involves my son who is a self employed joiner. It must be part of the training they get - "Yes yes notta problem of course I'll do it - but it won't be this week".......... or the next or the next or sometimes not even this year. :mute::biggrin:
