And they are going OTT on getting all the people that were in the riots in Bristol years after yet people that live in rural areas don't get any policing at all

To be fair, I think she was a bit silly getting in amongst them, but not saying it was right.

They did warn protesters that they were going to take pretty much zero tolerance to anything remotely disruptive, and rightly so as scaring horses to make them bolt is downright stupid and very dangerous.

They should have processed them much faster and worked out she was not involved.

@Jiffy, its not a rural thing, as such, I live about half a mile from the Kent police headquarters and they only turn up if someone gets stabbed or murdered, anything regarding reporting road problems is of no interest to them, just as long as you dont do one mph over the limit and then the cash rolls in.;)

The protesters, and many people that weren't even there but sort of agree with them and want to jump on the anti establishment bandwagon because it's as popular as ever among people who aren't confident enough to be their own individual, are saying that the police response is proof that we live in a police state.

I sort of wish we did. Local riffraff all over the country have learned they have a free pass to do what they like, because there are no consequences. Gangs of masked youths terrorising vulnerable looking people in broad daylight just for fun. Riding stolen motorbikes around the streets. When I once witnessed a burglary actually in progress I reported it to the police, who urged me not to confront the burglar, so I didn't. I was assured that a unit was coming with blue lights. They didn't bother.

It's the thought of being shut in - in a room full of people that will get to me Pete. I was called once on the Isle of Man, but one of the advocates in the court room obviously didn't like the look of me so I wasn't picked - thank goodness.

Funny story, sorry for the slight digression, but it is court case related.

I once had to be a witness in a court case. It was the first and only time I've been to court so I didn't know what to expect.

I was taken into the 'witness lounge' and told someone will collect me when it's my turn to give evidence. It was such a grotty place. Hard floor, metal seats bolted to the floor, and little else except for a bunch of very shady looking people. I remember thinking, this is a big grim but ok. I guess this is how it is. So I sat down and waited patiently.

About five minutes later, an official came in and quietly said my name to double check they'd approached the right person. I said yes, that's me. The official quietly asked me to go with them so I thought that was quick, but I followed them anyway. When we got back into the corridor the official apologised. There'd be a slight error. They explained there were two witness lounges. They'd put me in with the defence witnesses by mistake. As I was there for the prosecution side I should wait in the prosecution witness lounge. I followed the official into the other lounge. Deep luxurious carpet, art on the walls, ambient lighting, and plush leather arm chairs.

Well I dont know about being shut in, we were allowed to wander round and even go outside if you smoked, just as long as they knew where you were.
You get shut in when in a court I suppose but its not cramped.

I think he's right. Although how he can make that happen is anyone's guess. However if it was possible to wave a magic wand, he really needs to do it very carefully. Freezing price growth would be better than actually reducing prices, otherwise we'll see widespread negative equity like we did in the late 1980s.

I'd like to see much more building but I doubt it would bring prices down.

I'm sorry but no house owner/ mortgage payer is going to vote for someone who says he is going to bring house prices down,.
Building more houses will not bring house prices down, because if it did the builders would just stop building until the prices went up again, they wont build them at a loss.
Most big house builders are sitting on land as it is, waiting for the right time.

I do think that there needs to be more social housing being built and less luxury ones that I see around here, all being snapped up by Londoners looking for their house in the countryside, as they advertise them around here.
Well it was countryside until their brand new £500,000 house was built on it.

New amendments to the Highway Code - if you use a sat-nav in your car - you are now breaking the law and are subject to a fine and points on your licence...

Tougher rules on mobile phones have also come in. Previously, drivers using their phones at the wheel were fined up to £200 and get six points on their licence but now, it is completely illegal for drivers on the roads to use their phones, or any other electronic device - such as a sat-nav or tablet.

That sounds like a daily mail or express version of the story.

It's not illegal to use such devices. They just have to be properly mounted and hands free.

The new law is just an update to the phone law, updated to catch up with technology. When the mobile phone law came in, phones were mostly just phones and little else. That meant you could legally, for example watch a YouTube video while driving (although you could still get done for driving without due care and attention). Phones have moved on since that law came in, and now they're a full blown pocket computer. The law has been updated to reflect this, and close a loophole.

                              I can't believe this.

An elderly Australian woman with dementia is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being Tasered by police at a care home.

She began approaching police - "it is fair to say at a slow pace" - and was Tasered.

She had a walking frame. But she had a steak knife.

Family friend Andrew Thaler claimed she was struck twice - in the chest and the back - before she fell, suffering a fractured skull and a serious brain bleed.
