I've been trialling another slug and snail deterrent.
Oil with chilli powder mixed in.
I painted it around my Hosta pots and two Dahlias on Sunday.
I purposely put these two Dahlias on one of my compost bins as the snails hide behind it and come out at night.
I've put dahlias on here before and they totally disappeared over night.
No sign of slug and snail damage at all the next day and it rained at night.
Now End of Wednesday and still no sign of damage on my dahlias.
I could be on to something here.

Any cooking oil would do but I used Olive Oil. Only the best for my slugs and snails.
I would estimate it was 50ml of oil with one level teaspoon of extra hot chilli powder.

Fantastic idea. However, on a very hot sun scorched day aren't you worried that your garden is going to smell like your local Indian takeaway, lol.

I've been putting out chilli powder for some time now, and I've not seen a wild boar in ages, not even one slightly upset.
So I can guarantee that it actually works. ;)

As far as I am aware, only mammals react to the capsaicin in chilli

I suppose there is an easy way to find out, put a few snails in a ring of the mixture and see if they escape.

It's true but you're talking sensory heat as in taste.
This is burning them like rubbing chilli powder into a cut in you hand.

I suspect that they would. Then they'd head for the beer traps and spend the following day feeling rather poorly, huddled in their shells
