Aeonium Nobile

After a good few years A. nobile has decided to flower, I get the impression they are monocarpic so hopefully it will go out in a blaze of glory.

 

It must be interesting to see it flower but sad to loose it too. Aren't there any shoots you can take as cuttings ?

 

Its a strange one Michael, they only stay as a solitary rosette and grow for years just getting bigger, until they flower.
I grew it from seed.
I've tried rooting leaves but never managed it, possibly decapitating it might force it into side shoots but never tried it.

If it's as monocarpic as my much-regretted 'nana, it should go on for a few years yet

I'm surprised that you've not struck leaf cuttings, though. It's easy enough with Echeveria . I'll have a go with my A. Schwartzkopf, just out of interest....

 

I've tried leaf cuttings but I can't seem to get the leaf to come away from the stem cleanly, with the node attached.
I was thinking of only leaving half a dozen flowers for seed and cutting the rest off, in the hope it puts out a side shoot.

Just an update, still in full flower and shedding lots of pollen.
