The devil's in the detail..the current account has to have been pretty active over several months with payments in and payments out. I doubt I'll qualify but as banks and building societies go, I think it's pretty decent of them to give something back. Until you've experienced French banks @pete you don't realise just how excellent some UK banks are!

Today I went to my local Kwik Fit as my air con needed re-gassed. After an hour the guy brought the keys back and told me they had re-gassed it, there were no leaks but it wasn't blowing cold air. I asked if they had reset the Climatronic unit error code and he said yes, everything is okay. He gave me a card for an air-con specialist and sent me on my way with no charge (should have been £64.95).
As I pulled out I had to stop at a set of traffic lights so I interrogated the unit (a couple of button presses), reset the error code and carried on home. The air certainly felt cold. On reaching my garage I dug out my digital indoor/outdoor thermometer, Stuck the outdoor probe into the face-level vent and the temperature plummeted to 4°C. It looks like I have won a watch.

It has been too chilly to do any light work outside. Yes, heavy sweaty work would keep me comfy but but that is pretty much done. I am happy to have work to do inside that will finish just about the same time it will be very pleasant out there

I don't know about making me happy but it made me laugh! I received a spam email that told me my iCloud storage had reached its limit and that I should enter my credit card details and give my Apple I.D. to receive 50GB more.

I don't have an Apple (apart from those on my trees), I have never uploaded anything to the Cloud - and there were three spelling mistakes in the email. :roflol: The email address it came from was also stupid.

Yes, @shiney the spelling errors do make me giggle too. I cannot understand how someone can so cleverly assume the costume of a corporation and then do such inaccurate interpretations! I have followed some and entered a bogus account number and a very unladylike saying as a password just as a poke at the lizard

By doing so you will have set a flag in a database, confirming that your email address is valid and the recipient reads their emails, making your email address slightly more valuable when the spammers sell it on as part of a list to other scammers.

@Clueless 1 v2 Oh goodness, you must think I'm a fool! The fact that the original email sent to me did not bounce back immediately has already confirmed the existence of the account. And I don't care because they all keep recycling the same addresses. In my humble opinion, it is only fools who allow themselves to be scammed.

It's the same thing with telephone numbers. The air duct cleaners and window replacement sellers keep calling over and over. Even if I didn't answer, they keep trying.

We have a "do not call" directory but it is useless. They enforce nothing because overseas operators are the ones doing it and our country cannot control that.

The day Bell and all of those get actively involved and stop the scammers using our private phones/emails to harass us would be wonderful. But that is just wishful thinking.

Absolutely not. I just think that like most people, you maybe haven't spent over 25 years as a senior techy in the IT industry. I'm clueless on many things but this is my one area of expertise.

There is nothing in the SMTP protocol (the data exchange standard for sending email) that says an undeliverable message didn't make it to the recipient. That's up to the ISP that owns the domain part of your email address (the bit after the @ sign). Some bounce, some don't, some decide whether to bounce or not based on rules defined by the system administrator of the mail server. Increasingly, they're moving towards NOT bouncing undeliverable mail because it tells the sender something about the email account and the mail server if they do.

Years ago it was easy for scammers to tell if an email had been opened. They would embed a tiny image in the email that went to a URL with a unique identifier on it that referenced a page that would set a flag, but email providers cottoned onto this, choosing to block automatic loading of external resources by default.

It is not only fools that get scammed. Very intelligent people do too. It is possible to be bright but not know the tech details.

I'm now ignoring something and will say that I was very very happy that I noticed a fritillaria bulb inside wood chips and inside a mesh bag, was no good and did not buy it. I wrote on tne label that it was no good too so someone else did not buy it either. It saved me a trip back to the store and hopefully saved someone else the aggro too!

And to carry on with happy things, I finally figured how to put an idle solar panels to good use. Well, they aren't exactly idle just not feeding anything yet and the best part is that the the wiring os already within a foot of where I need to connect it and the panels are in a position to fill a gap in the afternoon where the power input from other panels subsides due to shade! Win, win, win

Took my car for the dreaded MOT. I told the garage receptionist that I'd just like it to pass, so anything that needs doing, as long as it's not a crazy amount, just do it.

                    Total bill, £75

That covers the test fee, plus they stripped the brakes down, cleaned them out, reassembled, because they were sticking a bit. I'm happy with that.

Not much makes people on this forum happy does it - everyone prefers the moaning thread :heehee:

                      Well I am happy today - it's raining ...
AND I've had a letter from Carmarthenshire council telling me I am to have a refund of £53 :dbgrtmb:
This is because I have paid for my garden waste bin twice.

They would not empty it because I had apparently not paid, and when I told them I had paid they wouldn't believe me ... so, doubting myself, I paid again.

NOW they have discovered I was right, and have therefore paid twice. I am happy to know I need not have doubted myself, and that I'm going to have a refund
