The British Police have arrived here again on the McCann case! One of the scenes they put up is of the Arade Dam near us which they have dragged umpteen times.

I was under the impression that the German police were in charge.

Went to Chelsea Flower Show yesterday. Can’t say I was impressed. Yes, some nice exhibits, but couldn’t really get a good look at the show gardens, but what I did see was a bit…underwhelming. Nearly £90 each to stand in a massive crowd? Won’t be going again.

Not a person for shows but have heard that the Hampton Court one is a better day out.

Yes, I’d have to agree. We went maybe 20 (?) years ago. Although it was crowded, we were able to see the show gardens properly, and were of a more eye catching standard. Just my opinion.

On the upside, we did discover Trollius (Globeflower) at the show. It’s our last day in the London area tomorrow, so we’ll be trying a local garden centre to try and source the above. On that note, can anyone recommend a good/big garden centre near the Abbey Wood/Bexley area?

Do you think all this 'back to nature' religion is having a knock-on effect? I should think that most exhibitors are under enormous pressure to avoid eco-unfriendly gardens and produce something more akin to a roadside verge

We used to go Chelsea every year back in the days when it was free on Tuesdays (Members' Day). I think that must have been close to 60 years ago :old:. We could wander round with no real crowded areas and used to be able to chat to the stand owners and the designers of the gardens. Over the years it gradually got busier and then they started charging for Members' Day - I was annoyed when it went up to £10. :rolleyespink: We eventually stopped going when it got too crowded.

Chelsea In Bloom is, apparently, worth a visit. A cousin visiting from abroad sent some pictures

We stopped going to Chelsea a few years ago it's just too small a space and far too crowded to be enjoyable. Last time we went they had just introduced the fast and slow queuing system to see the show gardens, we were treated worse than animals being herded about.

We are going to Hampton Court again this July, it's everything Chelsea used to be plus you can drive and park there easily. The show gardens are a bit more down to earth too.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I think it’s laudable that they’re making an effort to be more considerate of the environment, but when I see a show garden, I want to be ‘wowed’. I was actually looking for some inspiration. The only garden I really liked was the Japanese garden, and even that was a bit scaled back, I thought. I guess if I was able to be more immersed in the gardens, I might well have a different opinion :noidea:

I saw that political programme on BBC this morning, it had the minister for health Steve Barclay and a union representative for junior doctors, cant remember his name but lets call him Mr 35%, or is it Mr 49% now.

Personally I'd lock these two in a room and not let them out until they both get off their high horses and sort something out.
Complete disgrace the pair of them.

I am sick to the back teeth of hearing about Schofield's gay affair. How is this possibly newsworthy? I just don't get it - what about more news coverage of global issues such as the Ukraine war and the anti-Putin Russian partisan forces?

The coverage of Joe Biden tripping over a misplaced bag of sand - well I suppose that's only slightly more interesting than Scofield.
