Whats Looking Good In May 2023

A few from this morning.

 

Re Welsh Poppy. Few years ago when I could still walk we did our circular walk -- over the Ironbridge, along the old railway track towards the Cooling towers (now exploded!) up a higher path, down halfway under a bridge towards the river, along towards the Ironbridge on a low Riverside path, up steps to the Ironbridge and back across for coffee! Oh yes, the Welsh or Cambrian Poppy. About three quarters of the way I spotted an almost dead plant growing in a stone, moss covered wall. It had one small seed capsule. I emptied the seeds into an old envelope, noting that other poppies there were Orange in colour. I sowed the few seeds in a rockery. It was August and by September they'd germinated. They to ere orange when they flowered the following year. So some 5 years later the whole garden is colonised, half being the text book Yellow and the other half Orange! They take there place flowering after the Tulips and just before our Savias which are just starting to ping their flowers out!

That looks like Boris's blue to me.

Is that Protea 'Pink Ice?
I lost 'Tango' I got last year ... I think due to the fact I couldn't take care of things.

 

Its Protea cynaroides, (King Protea), but not the variety called pink ice.
I lost at least 50% flower buds in my "Tango" due to one cold night, so the display will be less this year. If it ever gets warm enough to get it moving.

Its looking better than mine Pete! One of my cynaroides has aborted all its buds. The other flowered much earlier.

 

Pity, any pics of the earlier one.
Was it the cold that made it abort the buds.

 

My three well formed P cynariodes buds never opened due to the cold nights in December and February.
