I have recently noticed these strange growths on my Trachycarpus fortunei

It looks like some sort of fungus maybe? Any ideas? Is it harmful? Should I remove it...

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks

Certainly is a flower bud, mine are all flowering now. Last years seeds are still on my female plant, they shed sometime soon.

Thank you @wiseowl - I couldn't figure out how to do that :)

Thanks everyone- I'm glad it's just a flower and nothing to worry about. I thought the plant has become diseased.
