    Hi all,

Normally I buy a few plants from homebase or the wonderful groves nursery in Bridport... and grow them in gro-bags in the greenhouse. This year, I wasn't going to bother - but a few weeks ago I had a piccolo cherry tomato in the fridge that was looking a tad squidgy - so I squirted it into a small plastic trough (20cm x 50cm type thing...).
Now the seedlings have all sprouted and are around 50mm tall - I didn't actually think they would grow.. that said, now they have, I want to see it through as long as possible. I've transplanted about a dozen of the best looking ones into pots... anyway, I'm rambling again.. the question I would like to ask is this: Will we have enough growing season outdoors for seeds planted so late? If not, will I need to to light and heat the greenhouse if I have to move them in there?
Shall I get a few gro-bags? Is it worth it?

    Thank you

Well it is late, but I'm pretty sure you will get something from them, I wouldn't bother light and heating , but get them into the greenhouse
ASAP, perhaps with some shading at first, if they are not used to direct sunlight.

No harm in trying, my guess is towards the end of September to get a few fruit. By then we are into blight season and an outdoor crop is high risk.

Personally I'd rather buy a couple of blight resistant varieties from a nursery to get a head start.

I've never tried heating and lighting a greenhouse at the end of the season, sounds expensive.

Sorry i misread the question, I wouldn't try growing them outside, but i think in the greenhouse will be worth it.

Yeah but you dont need heating and lighting now, and I doubt you will later in the year if you grow them in the greenhouse.
Its just outside that would be a bit iffy.

I think I'd only have a light on for a couple of hours if that, just to match the day length in July and August.. heating.. yeah.. maybe a problem ha ha

I agree with Pete, no need for lighting/heating at this time of year, or for the foreseeable future. I’d be more concerned about keeping the temperatures down when the sun is shining.

So what was this - 5 days ago? I took the strongest seedlings and transplanted them into pots. They haven't grown much to be honest - they still look healthy and upright - but their previously smaller siblings in the original trough are now twice their size... :O

Were the pots large? I've found they take a few days to get used to larger ones, in other words it a bit of a shock to the plants, they will pick up I'm sure.

Did the remaining ones suffer the same root disturbance as the ones you potted on.
