Potato Growing 2023

My dad always reckoned that they were best served with (proper) bacon and broad beans, with the bacon fat poured over the top

 

I've always found that even if they don't flower they do have the flower buds form, but they drop off without opening, so you can still see were the flowers would have been.

 

Narrr, that must be a local thing.
Either in a salad with butter or with lamb chops and mint sauce.
Some nice crispy fat on the chops.

 

Mouth watering eh? I do miss digging them up (Arran Pilot), wiping off the skin and chucking them straight in the saucepan, serving with a slather of butter, nothing better

 

Roasting improves everything . These ones are more floury than most so are good roasted

 

I must admit I do like a nice crispy roast potato, but I wouldn't grow earlies for that. I've always associated roast potatoes with main crop or at least 2nd earlies.
I have grown some of the more floury earlies and they don't boil well.

 

Yeah me too as well to be honest, I forgot about how they can disintegrate even if you are careful with them. I usually grow charlotte second earlies but thought I'd try something different. They were still rather tasty

 

Steaming is the way ahead

 

So is that "full steam ahead"?

 

The grass is not good but the spuds look good, as for the size 9, best not go there.
How did you dig them out and keep them attached to the stems, mine always come up as if they were never attached to a plant.
