      My potatoes (Kestrel) are beginning to fall about a bit, just before flowering, by the look. I'm hoping it's just the weather. Time to go and water.

      I'd carefully remove affected parts trying not to contaminate healthy plants. Then if you are not against chemicals use a Mancozeb spray which should stop it spreading.

        I've supported my earlies with canes and string, as always the tops flop over due to weight. At the allotment the maincrop may do the same in a month or so, but I just leave them alone as it doesn't affect yield that much.

          I cut my losses @JWK and thanks for the advice.

          Chopped all the tops on the first 8 containers to try and save the last 4 as they have another 8 weeks to go before harvesting.

              They look good @Drahcir and, in my opinion, too many to try and get support in there. It would be more productive to spend time watering rather than trying to support them.

              Some varieties produce taller foliage so no matter what you do they will fall over at some point.

                Maybe this is obvious but don't compost the diseased foliage, to lessen the chance of it reappearing next year.

                  I'll add more water. No rain for quite some time here. Top inch or so of soil is dry. Missed a cloudburst the other day by about 3 miles (was driving in it, on dual carriageway, standing water, could not see out properly even at 30MPH, twonks still hammering by at 50 and jamming the brakes on). Mind you, it would have caused plant damage.

                              Is it best to let the soil / compost completely dry out?
