Or, make the manufacturers produce cars that are unable to go over 50mph':rolleyespink:

I've tried travelling at 50 mph on a motorway and its downright impossible, you end up totally engulfed by foreign lorries, mostly, pushing you along because they are running at their governed speed.
If you like to be surrounded by artics then ok, if you prefer to see where your going or what is happening up front put your foot down.

Maybe some people would buy a four seater electric mini that would do (only) 62km/h, with a 110 mile range for £4,000 new?

Oh, I agree, would be good for shopping, but you would then need to hire something a bit bigger if you ever wanted to go further afield, we are all mostly used to buying a car that kind of fits the bill for whatever use you are likely to want to put it to.

Its going to be a long process telling people you must downsize and drive like a funeral procession all the time.

God I'm glad I'm old, freedom has gone.

But you could afford to rent something bigger if the Mini only sets you back 4k.

Stellantis announced they are going to produce an affordable Citroen e C3, that will be launched in 2024. I think the basic, e C3 will cost about 25k on the road. EV cars are unlikely to get cheaper, there is new legislation on the the emissions of ICE cars coming in soon, which will result in an ICE car costing more, but the press and all these environmentalists will have us believe that EV cars in Europe have got cheaper and affordable.

For a Citroen to be affordable, they'll have to pay people to take it. That way it will be affordable if the customer keeps the payment to one side so they can pay the weekly garage bills.

I'll go for the 4x4 all terrain version, and get spat on for driving a Chelsea tractor.

That is not affordable. It needs to be below £10,000 brand new to be competitive and tempt people.

See: China EV Price List | Rank Chinese electric cars by range and price | WattEV2Buy

If ICE cars are to go - and they will - then BEV prices must come down, and there is no reason, apart from manufacturer inertia and desire to maintain excessive margins, that they should not. BEV sales are on the up, and as they take market share, what will happen to fuel costs for ICE cars? The answer is self evident.

EDIT: Is there a more appropriate place for "discussioins" re BEVs and connected issues?

So would I. A "Tramper" or similar (the prices of these need to come down a lot, to, the prices of "disability" (or "mobility" stuff, depending on your point of view), is horrendous money-making mick-taking).

Now the banks have been called out for ripping us off.

Bank bosses summoned to talks over savings rates

                        Good. The thieving b words.

                        They're crying about it already...

'However, the Financial Times reports some of those due to attend the meeting have warned that the FCA intervention is regulatory over-reach'.

Basically the FCA, which appears to be at least pretending to do its job for once, is asking awkward questions, like, how come you're so quick to increase interest rates on debts but not quite as quick to raise interest on savings?

Poor banks. I feel so sorry for them. All they're trying to do is leach as much money as possible off people, either through day to day business, or via taxpayer funded bailouts if they get a bit carried away, and some nasty pasty comes along and asks them a question.
