If your home was standing empty for a while he perhaps thought it was a good idea to stop it from over growing.

 

The property was never empty just neglected. as it is a shared garden I have one side and the person bellow has the other side.

On an update today I was digging up the new little ash trees about 20 of them from around my brick shed and found the bones of a cat buried about 2" down so that was a surprise I did not want.

 

It's a bit of a shock when you come across the remains of what was probably a well loved pet.

 

did a soil test a few days ago and the website I put the readings into say its a sandy loam soil.. are there any good test kits to say if it needs any feeds as I can add what it needs before i start getting the soil lvl for laying grass seed

 

Oh dear, I have sandy loam and it's the worst soil I've had to garden with. It's constantly hungry and thirsty so digging in as much compost as you can is best.

 

I agree to what was already said. I would focus on the land belonging to your property. You never know those neighbours, one day they want your help, another - other people move in and say bye to you. Or they dislike what's done. May end up doing hard work, and then they'll start chilling there and having bbqs

 

I am only going to do my side and think about helping the other side...
So my couch grass looks dead glyphosate looks like its done its job so its ready to be bug up

 

The glyphosate has worked well. Do you intend grass seeding or turfing?

 

My plan at the moment is to seed but what to use i have no idea yet.

 

It may be worth looking through the threads on the lawn forum to see what others have had success with.

 

If I were you I'd get the lawn sorted out first. Then get rid of any nasty brambles and burn them. That will give you a nice clean slate to work with.

 

It has been a while so just a little update.. a picture can say more so its looking a bit better.


Got a couple of climbing rosses at the fence that need training and another that can be seen in the tree that i may just leave to do as it likes and more just starting to regrow that i had no idea was there. Brambles are nearly gone but some are growing out of my soon to be turf area, the damn things must have been buried before i moved in. Cats ate my nepeta the same day i planted them under my new rose bush. Still got lots to do but at least it is looking nice flower wise.

 

That's looking a lot better. It may be an idea to let the brambles leaf up and then use glyphosate on those before laying the turf. It will kill off any running roots. If that doesn't work SBK will.

 

I spray them and let them sit for a week then dig up the roots. They are every where just when i think i have them all another pops up.

 

I went over the nature reserve today and got some thin bendy branches to make some small arches to train my climbing rose by the fence.. i thought i had 2, one in the top one in the bottom of the picture turns out i may have 4 at last count may be climbers may be bushes i am waiting to see what they do.
