Tha plants in my nearest Morrisons outdoor polytunnel have been hopeless this year. They don't look after them and the're all wilting and full of dried up leaves.
I did buy a Fuchsia named 'Lady Thumb' - a hardy one, to replace the one I lost, but it has turned out to be 'Harry Grey' - a tender weeping variety, which I didn't really want.

I can't put all my latest purchases on here, there are too many.

I just can't help myself! :yikes: I just received this Adenium from Spain. It is not in bloom at the moment. It was sent without pot so I must decide what to plant it in, perhaps one of the newly purchased above.

Our Sainsburys is bad at looking after their plants! Mostly its a waste of time & money getting plants from them. I rarely get plants there. That said I do have a few plants I've bought from there. 2 Geranium plants I've had for quite some years were bought on an impulse - something I rarely do. At the time I thought to myself if I wait a day or two longer before buying them they will have gone. I'm glad I bought them when I did.

I'm not sure how true that is, as they water their cut flowers, while they are doing that they could water other pot plants.
I've heard the Health and Safety thing and wonder if that really is the reason.

I just think its their policy, its cheaper to throw away the dead stuff than pay someone to water them.
You can bet they mostly get the stuff at rock bottom prices and hope to sell within a couple of days.

Yes, it's been the norm for a few years now. The health and safety reasoning is because watering potted plants is difficult without spillage and supermarkets don't want to be sued by customers slipping on it.

Why don't they just stop selling them? It's horrible to see the plants slowly dying. There's also the cost of producing them and supermarkets buying them in just to die.

Purchased today from a local charity shop for £15 - what a bargain.

Will look nice in the lounge with a vase of flowers.

I started out just wanting something to clear out the dead Lilly leaves on the pond but things kind of moved on, as they do, and ended up buying one of these today, I thought it might be good for getting the dead fronds off the palms, and other pruning, as I don't go up ladders much these days.
Bought a 5 metre pole and a pruning saw to go with it.

Lily leaves won't put up a fight, but when you use it for pruning, make sure you wear thick gloves :) I always end up wrapping the cord around my hand to get leverage and boy does it cut if you're not wearing gloves!

On the few palm fronds I've taken out today I've found it cuts very easily, but I measured the travel between fully open and fully closed jaws and its a massive 900mm, you need arms like an orangutang to use it.
Its got a sliding handle that you can lock onto the cable, but not sure its that much use TBH with that amount of travel on the cable.

Not tried it yet on tree branches.

Oooo there's posh! Mine have got wooden handles at the end of the cord which are useless! You'll be able to take up tennis and win after a few months of using it
