As you can see from this chart, think Outlook ( Microsofts email) is the only realistic contender as the others are very small. Gmail and Outlook clealry have better resources to overcome any problems, though non infallible.

I didn't think outlook was actually an email in itself, I thought it was just one of those e mail clients, I remember using it years ago and back then you had to set it up in your PC and my PC kept forgetting the details, setting it up was a weekly process, all this pop 3 business :scratch:etc. That's why I went for Virgin blueyonder.

The sooner you get everything transfered over the better !

Are you aware most email providers including Gmail allow you to Archive your mails to an external drive, believe you said earlier you keep your old mails for ages ?

Re an alternative backup provider, you could try this, its keynote is chargeable privacy accounts but they do offer a single email address with limited storage for free, if set up it could be a handy lifeline for emergency emails should Gmail go down.
Proton Mail: Get a private, secure, and encrypted email account | Proton

Of course a lot of the folk you contact will probably be using Gmail as well so even using Proton they will not be able to receive your mails ! though Gmail does not go down very often or for very long.

Its back again now, and I notice that if I leave the Virgin tab open it times out, so I have to get back in each time.
I dont have to do that with g mail.

My son was using and liked Proton Mail. Unfortunately he forgot his password and there was no way of retrieving it.

Is that a good thing for you, that Gmail stays on ? expect there may be a setting somewhere to change that ??

Yeah, I prefer it to stay there once connected, I have to reload VM even if the tab stays open.

BT stays on all the time if I don't log out and so does Outlook, where I prefer to use my BT accounts.
