Something to ponder - article from Le Monde...

This year, humanity is entering into "ecological debt" starting from August 2 and will remain so for 151 days, according to calculations by the North American organization Global Footprint Network.

This Overshoot Day marks the date from which humanity has consumed all the resources that ecosystems are capable of producing in one year. The non profit estimates that it would take the equivalent of 1.7 planet Earths to regenerate our consumption of resources.

It's all go here. Local media have reported a potential alien invasion - flying saucers were spotted in the skies of a nearby town.

Simon said: "At first I thought they may have been balloons, but then when I zoomed in on the footage, I could see that they were in perfect alignment and were rotating.

"These unidentified objects were about one-hundred foot above us and looked like kidney beans floating through the air. They seemed to be transparent as well."

There is also a shocking video - that looks like either a fleet of flying saucers or possibly a couple of sea gulls...

They'd have a job to beat the incompetence of the French  The telly licence fee was included in the 'habitation' part of the Council tax. They've just abolished that part and seem to have forgotten to separate out the TV licence beforehand. Neat, eh? Mind you, I'd be amazed if they haven't got a cunning plan up their sleeves to somehow claw it back three times over!

The beeb needs to go down the ITV route - adverts and a premium pay for service - ie. the ITVX premium service.

I was watching Blue Planet 2 yesterday using the iplayer. I'm one of the - it seem - increasingly rare few who watch the BBC and will pay for a tv licence. The only thing that annoys me is the couple of million bunged to the so called celebrities. Go down the ITV route and no one will care how much the bbc celebrities are getting paid.

The BBC is not advert free, it spends a lot of time just advertising its streaming service and programmes yet to come.
Can you still get the Radio Times
I was trying to find The World At One with William Hardcastle earlier but they seem to have taken it off.

I went to Carmarthen on the bus (it's about 18 miles) The traffic was horrendous and the town very crowded - it's holiday time and everywhere is full of tourists. I think I'll stay home until September.

I told myself I wouldn't go in to Farmyard Nurseries on the corner behind the market, but I did !
                I bought a Lewisia

We Never go South of the N124 in July and August ... as that's where the tourists are!

I am jealous about your Lewisia. What colour and are they expensive? Photo.

Hi @Victoria, My Lewisia is deep pink. I've got two pale pink ones and a white one so this one was a must !
I'll put a photo soon and find out the price, but I think it was just over £2.00

I live at the western tip of the Beacons National park (Now called by its poroper Welsh name of Bannau Brycheiniog) so there are always lots of people around in August. It's difficult to find somewhere without them.
I mustn't grumble though, I am a tourist myself when I visit some places.

I wont go anywhere near the coast until the school holidays are over, its just not worth the effort, anyway, we might get some decent weather once the kiddies get locked up:biggrin:.
The school summer holidays do seem to have a way of messing up our summer weather.

Yes and it's everywhere around here - coast hills castles gardens - all swarming with holiday makers, and the roads are mad ...

I never could understand why the holiday period was in August, the weather is never nice. I always thought it would be better in May or June.

Its the school holiday thing, August is nearly Autumn in my book, always has been, on the slippery slope of shorter days.

I think its mostly Easter, Christmas and in the summer from late July to Early September, with other shorter breaks in between.
