What's Looking Good In August 2023

I love it spaced out amongst the borders but it needs controlling ,I tend to dig up the self seeders and put them where I want them to be every Spring. They're great for attracting the pollinators and Butterflies.

 

I haven't had any trouble with VB self seeding.

 

What!! We have to pull it out from our pathways by the bucket load!! I sowed some about 4years ago and have never had to since.

It's no trouble to me at all as it saves me a job.

 

Two years I've left the seedheads on but nothing, so i had to buy some more. Also most of mine died over the winter.

 

I just can't grow it. I'd given up on it for several years but may have another go next year.

 

Oh dear ,very strange . Mind you I cut them right back to ground level in late Autumn/ Winter.

 

I think it's just that not everythng will grow in everyone's garden. Some things will grow in some places and not in other places, and other things will grow in those places ...

With me Nigella, Lemon Balm and Opium Poppy also self seed copiously. Less welcome are Ash, Sycamore, Ivy, Hawthorn and Birch.

You might like to have a go with Verbena venosa, Michael? It's shorter than bonariensis but truly perennial. Mine was very well-behaved in UK but is a bit of a thug over here

I do get the foxglove, poppies, forget me not, musk mallow and columbine.
