Tomato Growing Thread 2023

Yes we had a hot sunny spring. I think that was actually our summer.
I would not usually have put the tomatoes out so soon.

 

Very sorry to hear this, I didn't realise it spread so quickly from being healthy one day and having to throw the plants away the next. "as you say - fingers crossed that all will be well"

 

Well, it's now in the brown bin. I planted far too many this year. Maybe I should just stick to the greenhouse and the house wall next year.

 

Meanwhile, this is what I mean about Dwarf Mary's Cherry being a bit of a misnomer.

 

Taste and please tell, it could be SCRUMPTIOUS!

 

I tried one of the earliest (and smaller) ones a few weeks ago. It was very tasty.

 

Perhaps Mary was of short stature.
Just picked several pounds of tomatoes, Monte Carlo, Alicante, Black Opal and Golden Sunrise.

 

She's absolutely bred for it!
How are you finding the flavour of Golden Sunrise? It always turns out a bit meh for me.

 

Golden Sunrise flavour could be better, I find it ripens quickly although prone to splitting.

 

Jaune Flammee might be a good alternative.

Blight has arrived! Recently THE GARDENER and I planted out our Tomatoes and I considered that they were too close together perhaps and perfect for the development of BLIGHT! I was correct! I'd grown Ddraig Goch which has been fine for two years, but no blight in that time!! THE GARDENER informed me that the leaves were turning brown and then drying up! So today I went out to have a look, and sure enough it was Blight. So I've pulled all the green Tom's, a very good crop, and cut up all the infected plants into a black sack which will go into the general rubbish. I don't have a green bin. We'll I do but I raise worms in it!!!
All is not lost as the other half of the tomatoes are Crimson Crush, right next to the infection but still nice and green leaves, and the plump trusses. Yes I'm crossing my fingers!!!

I can't remember the varieties but the little ones are Rapunzel ...

 

There's productive and then there's Dwarf Wild Fred.
