Looking for a tool that may not exist.

I get dying waterlilly leaves in the pond and kneeling down and cutting them off is not an option anymore, anyway some are too far out to reach easily.
I'm looking for something on long handle, up to 5 or 6 ft , with like a hook on the end but also a cutting blade inside the hook, idea being to hook it round the dying leaf and give it a jerk, thereby cutting the leaf from the plant.

I was going down the road of making something using a stanley blade as the cutting edge, but I think the danger of the blade getting dislodged and falling in the pond is too great.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Would one of those things used for cutting tree branches be suitable @pete ? - you know, those things with a long handle and a string you can pull and it cuts the high branches.
It may be too big but just a thought.

I think something like that could, just could, easily puncture the liner if I got a bit careless.

You'd be better off with a pair of waders!

 

Lidl occasionally do fetching bright pink waders. I used to struggle with trying to maintain the pond from the edges but they've revolutionised my life (And the frogs are used to me joining them now ).

 

I don't know, but i've got a red one which is over 30years old about 6-8 feet long, i could put up a pic if any one want's to see it

 

Don't think it would do the liner any favours.
