I think the designers will have taken that into consideration. One thing all the road testers comment on is the good handling, despite the weight, due to the low centre of gravity and the stiff chassis setup.

      Hi,

Yes half a ton of dead weight in a battery so low down will virtually glue the EV to the road. My BMW R75/5 750cc bikes had a low center of gravity due to being horizontally apposed twins; they were wonderful bike back in the early 70's.

      Kind regards, Colin.

        Hi,

The very first time I straddled my expensive BMW bike and twisted the throttle I almost dropped the bike as I struggled to keep it upright; the flywheel effect was very powerful indeed. I owned two of these and they were the most expensive but best bikes I ever owned; I could have bought a terrace house for the cost of one of these; back in 1973 I used to do Middlestown near Wakefield to Walthamstow there and back in a morning taking a friend to the BMW dealer where the parts were much cheaper; it would be suicidal these days given the volume of traffic and the boys in blue wouldn't be happy either. Older and very much wiser.

        Kind regards, Colin.

        Hi,

I've just watched an interesting video on YouTube regarding the latest scrapage scheme with government grant up to £2,000. Expensive very good condition WITH MOT cars are being handed in for a mere £2,000 (Up to?) do these cars get sold on abroad to places like India at a fat profit ended up in government coffers; it wouldn't surprise me.

        Kind regards, Colin.

I find it amazing that in an era of trying to get away from the throw away society, and they are even suggesting mending things like toasters, we are scrapping perfectly good cars for £2000, I presume if it's worth more you still only get £2000?

Interestingly there is a company that is growing really rapidly as an end-of-life processor where they will take a car in and within a day it is stripped, all re-usable parts are identified, tagged/marked/cleaned and available for sale, with the rest going off for various recycling. I can't remember the name of the company now, but they are huge - a bit like an Amazon for used car spares. I watched a documentary on them some time ago and it was a fascinating watch.

Used Tesla motors and batteries, particularly from smashed cars are sent on to companies that are electrifying classics - lots of money involved, but equally fascinating.

If it is worth more, sell it outside London or We Buy Any Cr*p will also give you more...

The thing that is doing me with this is how he has been publicising quite heavily over the weekend that from today there is a wider scrappage scheme yada yada yada.. Today is the 21st - the thing goes live in a matter of DAYS. How is someone supposed to find a replacement vehicle and arrange to scrap their current one in that time frame?

It's alright he's only topping up.

So you have a car worth 3000, and have to sell it because of Khan, he should then give you 2000 to add to the 3000 to buy a new one.

After all. He's the only reason you're selling it. :dunno:

Ah, now you are adding some logic to things.. and there isn't any of that allowed nowadays. The fact that you have a vehicle that is perfectly serviceable, fit to pass an MOT, has valid VED and insurance and of course a tankful of fuel with all VAT and Fuel Duty paid...... well, sorry, but that isn't enough.

That is a quote from Ms Rodrigues from Imperial College London when questioning the misleading study/data being used to force the ULEZ expansion through. Clever lady.

She has clearly worked out that by lying to the public there will likely be a backlash that will result in the expansion failing and potentially even existing schemes being removed, whilst also undermining science/scientists (who, let's face it are already up against it following the pandemic shenanigans)

Sadiq Khan accused of trying to ‘squash’ scientific ‘dissent’ over Ulez

I must admit that I haven't really bothered to take much notice of the details of ULEZ and the scrappage scheme but I heard an ad on the radio yesterday from the scheme. Its wording was (to the best of my memory) "money towards scrapping or replacing" the cars.

Some of the previous posts on here seem to imply that it is only for scrapping. :noidea:

Having said that, £2,000 seems to be nowhere near enough to buy another car with the way prices have gone up. I haven't looked into the details but I wonder whether it is only towards an electric car or towards a ULEZ compliant car. In which case it could be a secondhand petrol car.

                  Hi,

                  The world's gone mad.

I'd like these who dream up stupid ideas visit their local stores to find all the shelves empty because delivery drivers are avoiding paying to enter clean air zones in fact I'm highly surprised convoy's of lorry's aren't making a huge protest in the center of London.

One guy in Bradford remarked do we keep our clean air in Bradford or does it end up in Huddersfield?

Yorkshire councils hit with budget black hole as more cuts loom

                  Kind regards, Colin.

If you went out and bought a compliant petrol car I just wonder how long it will be before that becomes non compliant.

They will just keep moving the goal posts.
