I think and hope that lessons have been learned, not just by our government but the rest of the world, so that the next time something like this starts it can be stopped before it becomes a pandemic.
If it cant due to certain countries that are likely hide it until its well advanced lets just hope we are better prepared.

I caught Long Covid, but, I thank God that I had all the vaccine offered and didn't end up in Hospital.

If history shows anything it's that we're not, as a race, able to learn from history.

Is that entirely true? Do you reckon that, if a Nationalist leader appeared in , say, Germany, he would be allowed to get to the top? I doubt it.
Do you think that the West trusted Putin before his little promenade westwards? The millionaires and politicians may have fraternised with him and his cronies (and will again, no doubt) but I don't think collectively that any government will trust Russia ever again.

Following world war two, the Germans changed their laws to make it nigh on impossible for another Hitler situation to arise. It hasn't stopped far right factions from forming and achieving some degree of influence.

Elsewhere in Europe, we've seen the same thing happen several times. I remember the horrific news of ethnic cleansing when Yugoslavia was tearing itself apart, and right now Putin, head of a nation that had to resist Hitler's nazi regime so should know better, is basically Hitler 2.0. The similarities are clear. He's blaming others for his own shortcomings, he's on a mission of imperialism, and just like Hitler, he's convinced his people that they are the victims, and the war is one of liberation.

In ww2, two of the reasons the ordinary German folk didn't get too upset until their own land was being bombed were: 1. They were led to believe that Germany was liberating Britain and others from a fascist regime and 2, those that did start to wonder were too frightened to resist. Sound familiar?

Ministers have opened a new vaccine research centre in the UK where scientists will work on preparing for “disease X”, the next potential pandemic pathogen.

The state-of-the-art Vaccine Development and Evaluation Centre is based at the UK Health and Security Agency’s (UKHSA) Porton Down campus in Wiltshire.

I have a horrible feeling that we will see more Covid-19 like pandemics - at least we will be better prepared the next time....

I wish I could share your optimism, but I strongly suspect the next one will be handled just as badly as the last one and all the previous ones. Why? Because clearly governments don't learn. At the height of covid it drove me mad hearing them constantly saying it was unprecedented, despite recent history featuring two major pandemics I know about, being Spanish flu around a hundred years ago, and Asian flu in the late 1950s. That's not even including countless less contagious but much more deadly outbreaks like SARS, MERS and ebola that happened in recent years, or major catastrophic pandemics from slightly further back in history. Despite all this, governments were unprepared for the last unprecedented event, and they'll be equally unprepared for the next one which they'll also say is unprecedented.

I think they were very well prepared ...it tested how compliant the population were and that they could take away our freedoms if they created enough fear which they successfully managed to do.
As for the enquiry its a waste of £millions as the end result will be "we will learn from this"

I still remenber seeing the Doc's outside and huging & kissing friends/family & people staying the night when we were all banned, but now with some MP's and PM having party's i don't think many people will take any notice of any new rules

So while Boris didn't quite get the cull he was looking for this time, the Tories will get it next time because everyone is just going to spread it at will.

Professor Jason Leitch, Scotland’s national clinical director, has expressed concern about how Covid could be rife this winter with fewer people getting vaccinated and people carrying on working after contracting it.

I still use Hand Sanitiser and sanitise goods coming into the house.
A little care that takes a few minutes.

I believe 'next time' it'll be suck it and see,no furlough and flinging cash at all and sundry...it's up the population to take heed and care for each other ..many didn't give a flying fig last time so it will be what it will be.

I doubt they will go for a lockdown, that was well OTT, remember all the silly instructions we were given like you can only exercise for an hour a day even if you were in wide open spaces and never got within 20ft of other people.
Red tape on seats in the park so you couldn't sit down.

Then there was, you can only meet 5 people and it has to be in your garden and not in the house.
It was downright crazy, sensible precautions I can under stand, but they drove half the population round the bend, it was actually worse than being in prison for those living in flats.

I hope they do learn from it and the next time its a bit less, stupid and dont spend so much time on a campaign of trying to scare the proverbial out of the whole population.
I dont think they even did that in WW2.
