An Algarve Garden -2023/24

Awesome blooms,..it may not be the correct description when viewing your blooms,..to me they are all mouth watering

 

Strangely, I agree, some flowers do have that look/effect!

 

The Baffa is mentioned here a lot. The house had an old chicken pen in the garden and we build an "ediface" onto it creating The Baffa, which is an outdoor living/garden room. We named it The Baffa as in 1989 I had been on a business trip to Guinea, West Africa, and at the diamond mine I visited and where I stayed there was a Meeting Room called The Baffa. A Baffa is African vernacular architecture and is a style of architecture that reflects the history and culture of African peoples.

Today I have a canvas out and plan to sketch it (in chalk as a first time) to hang inside our Baffa.

Gosh, it is the end of August and not much to report from the garden due to our heatwave.

Once the heat died down by 10 degrees, more buds developed on my beauties ...








My little Abutilon I did from seed a couple of years ago is turning into a nice little shrub. A bit hazy this morning ...




... and this morning J installed a brown bamboo cane screen on the kitchen window as the sun is very fierce at the sink ...

 

And September arrives ...

... my rare Hibiscus tosa-sinenses 'Albo Lacinatus' (White Fringed) is considered to have been one of the very earliest of the hibiscus hybrids. Some speculate that it could have been a first or second generation)cross between the Hawaiian species 'Hibiscus arnottianus' and the Malagasy species 'Hibiscus schizopetalus.' which has taken three and a half years to bloom ...

Beautiful blooms Victoria,..makes me want to be somewhere faraway and nice,..in a tropical garden in the Algarve ,..alas i have to stay at home.

The Bougainvilla over the entrance gate appears to be blooming more climbing up the Almond Tree.. When this one stops blooming, the one by the house will start to bloom.

 

So October brought bright colour to the garden with ...

The small Tecomaria capensis (Cape Honeysuckle) in the Sand Garden has started to bloom ahead of her mother in the lower border ...





This morning we had to move around the Hibiscus pots as the "Dwarf" Petit Sunrise has shot up spreading out into the patio ...

 

The Crinum has strange looking flowers @Victoria, I don't think I've heard of it before. Nice to have something unusual ...
Loving your Plumbago, I'm hoping for a better show from mine next year.

Beautiful colours on the Cape Honeysuckle

 

My sister brought me the huge bulbs back from Florida where they have self seeded. The standard ones look just like Lillies but this one is the Spider Lily. It took eight years to bloom!
