I think its more a case of people getting heat stroke and turning up at A&E.

Poncho and Souwester will keep the sun off, just drink plenty of liquids.

      The same forecast says Wednesday will be hottest from 2 p.m. 'till 6 .m. Wednesday (28°C), and 4 p.m. 'till 5 p.m. Thursday (29°C).

Even now it's hot. The thermometer incorporated into the kitchen clock says 24.5°C. Another night lying on my blanket with no covers. Um.

Right now, I am keeping my fluid levels up. Cheers! :)

Insects...grrrrrrr! Yesterday evening was just perfect for crashing on the terrace. It had cooled down to a pleasant 26C, the crickets were chirping beautifully and the evening-scented plants like Cestrum and Jasmine were bathing everything in perfume. Then along came the hornets :wallbanging: The blasted things are attracted to light, so we were driven indoors by half a dozen of them all fighting to head-butt the wall and pergola lights. It's bad enough having to fight them off to harvest the bountiful fruit this year, but the damned things never sleep! At least the paper wasps give it a rest between dusk and dawn. I'm going to borrow a friend's idea of a workshop light suspended over a container of diesel. Not pretty, but after the first couple of hundred drown, perhaps the others will get the message!

Well that wasn't to bad and no headache this morning. Remembered at about 3 a.m. I have a fan, set it to static rather than oscillate, and let it run for the rest of the night. Much better, but the noise... GAH!

What about one of those ultra violet lights that kill flying insects, you don't see them so much these days.

We have polite wasps here in Shineyland  and we co-exists quite happily. I don't know whether our resident wasps keep others away but our resident ones have their nests in the ground. We provide them with water bowls and even when both they and myself are working on the plum trees they don't bother me.

Wilko in Belchley is closing. That won't help the place. Sainsbury's closed in 2021, leaving another big gap. About 15 years ago the Co-Op department store closed, which was also a large shop, and has not been well utilised ever since. What will fill these places I wonder. Off-licences? "Cashinos"? Fast food outlets? More and moree charity shops? Housing maybe. Quite glad I don't actually live there.

Just had to stick my fingernail up again, which has an annoying vertical split, prone to lengthen, at the end (the bit you trim). Locktite superglue and teabag material, several layers, each spplied and then immediately pressed on gently through a polythene bag to flatten. Having 3 hands would be helpful.

A few days ago I had a text from my surgery stating there would be a 'Walk-in' Flu jab on Saturday the 8th Oct. The nearest I could find to that date was 7th Oct.
So I tried phoning, useless, so I went to speak to the receptionist at my Surgery.
The lady said this text was from last year, why have they sent it to you....pass on that one.
My Surgery is in special measures and a new team have taken over:whistle:

That's because they don't work  I doubt the hornets would be able to get near the element anyway. They're about 2" long and 3/4" wide. That's the native ones. The Asiatiques are a bit smaller.

Have you thought of trying one of those nail bars?
Apparently they can stick some new ones over the top for you.
