@pete I thought the people down in Kent and Sussex wanted to claim reparation from France because of the Norman invasion in 1066  :heehee:

Of course, that doesn't leave out the invasions by the Romans, Vikings and I even remember the invasion by the Spanish in 1595 at the Battle of Cornwall. :old: :loll:. The people in Penzance and surrounding towns/villages still want compensation for the burning of their towns.

Do you think it will actually make much difference, apart from raising more money, most people don't even stick to 30 so most will ignore it I think.
It will only really be those that have fancy motors with electronic devices that stop you exceeding the speed limit that will be the problem.

It would make roads even safer if you weren't allowed to drive on them. :ideaIPB:

There was far fewer accidents on the road during the lockdowns.

        Just an idea.
Depends how far you want to take this lunacy.

Oups! Referring to your earlier post! Doesn't it cheer you up to think that India and China etc are on the up, though? All through the ages, one civilisation or another has risen like cream in a bucket of milk to shine for a greater or lesser period. England's turn has been and gone but it was magnificent at it's peak. Now the West in general is sinking into a feeble decadence. Other countries are and will be in the ascendancy. It certainly won't be halted by bunches of corrupt politicians!

Thing is...9 out of 10 dont want the 20mph. This is an existential issue for the Welsh Labour party. Sadly the next elections are in 2026. The expert who originally said that 20mph was a good idea, has changed his mind and told Mark so. Didnt make any difference. My local council will struggle next year for cash, yet Labour are spending 33 million on this debacle.

One of the big reasons being, we have gone soft.
We were only great while we kept other countries under by force mostly.

He has said it will not affect the time you take to get places so he's an idiot. Or he thinks we are idiots, and if he thinks we are idiots he's an idiot.
If you drive 10 mph slower you're bound to take longer, so people will lake longer to get to work, and drive their children to school, deliveries will take longer, medical people and social workers will take longer to get to the people they want to see etc etc. It's going to affect bus time tables, and taxies will be more expensive as a result because they'll take longer to get people where they want to go. It will affect the post person who drives everywhere these days.
                  The list goes on ...

It's supposed to save accidents and lots happen in 30 mph areas, but at what speed do the culprits go ? All the nasty accidents around here are caused by drunks speeding and lowering the speed limit to 20 mph won't get rid of those.

I don't know how much it will affect me though because I've become slower anyway

I find it difficult to travel at 20mph in third gear, in fact when I was on a speed awareness course a few years ago we were told that you use 4th gear for 40 limits and third gear for 30 limits, reason being that you are less likely to creep over the limit if you follow that.

That means second gear wherever you go, doesn't sound very economical or environmentally friendly.

And to make sure you don't break the law by going over the limit you'll have to drive at under 20 mph which is very difficult to do.

I'm sure you will be overtaken by push bikes as it will obviously not apply to them, I dont think many rules of the road do.

Just make sure they leave you at least 1.5 metres clearance when doing so.:roflol:

Another thing about it is (and the politicians themselves have said it) they want to get more people walking and using bikes, but most people in Wales are old and/or disabled (a high percentage of them are anyway) and would find difficulty walking and using a bike, so they're not making any sense are they.

I've not ridden a bike in over 50 yrs, I'd definitely fall off and be a complete menace on the roads.
I tried a friends rowing machine some time ago and couldn't walk for two days.
