@Hanglow I've tried googling your "crown prince" and can't find anything that requires pickling. What is it please?

 

Just had a quick Google, is it Winter Squash ?

 

It sounds like some sort of squash.

 

Do I detect either editing of post or misread post.
Pickled squash?

I gave the Grass a cut near the house, Back hurting like mad through 15 years of lifting Patients/Residents.

Hi,

Just spent 45 minutes enjoying more digging in the middle wildflower meadow; I'm now winning but it's very hard work; people spend a fortune at gyms getting the workout I've just had; I had to stop part way through to take my trouser belt in a notch; when my clothes let go of me and I've finished this mug of tea and large lump of cherry cake hostilities will resume.

It's like night time being so dark and it's rained during the night making standing upright on the steep valley side even more challenging; all part of the rich tapestry of life.

Sowing mustards for the greenhouse today

 

I'm wondering what to do with my sphagetti squash, which looks ready to cut. How long will it keep, I wonder, and how to keep it?

 

I finished cutting the Grass.

 

Been a wet day and hadn't planned on doing much, ended up dragging the dumpy bag of shreddings down to the compost heap, my back didn't want to do it yesterday. Stopped to weed as I went, weeds come up easily in damp soil. Now drying out, but it got me thinking about what has done well and what hasn't so here goes.
The weeds have really enjoyed the mild damp weather. Rhubarb has done well, raspberries, black berries and loganberries have formed good canes for next year, lot happier than this time last year. Clematis flammula has grown well a lot of the new plantings have taken well and grown away with only being watered when planted. Squashes are more rampant than the weeds, Tropaeoleum specicosum has also grown well no sign of flowers yet.
On the downside some of the plants in the well drained beds are suffering from the damp, Aloe aristata was around earlier in the year not there today though, got a spare or two in the greenhouse. Some of the watsonias may be unhappy, see what they do next year. think I have lost Tulbaghia "Silver Eye", Tulbaghia capensis also passed away and Tulbaghia violacea, small, having disappeared below ground in the May, June hot dry spell and might not be enjoying the wet.
Nettles have loved it already cut them down twice and might need to cut them down again before Christmas.
The early dry spell completely ruined the strawberry patch coming after last years drought and the cold spell, black currants also very unhappy.
