Solved Pesty weed

Good evening all
We have a very troublesome weed/plant that is slowly taking over my garden. It's a low lying thing that is growing around established plants and bare soil but it also grows over a drain pipe, the mortar in the garden wall and even over some loose gravel.
It is easy to pull away as the roots appear to be shallow but it's a constant battle to keep it at bay
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think it's something called soleirolia, helxine or mind your own business!
Unfortunately it's pretty persistent as you've found. As it's very leafy, it'll probably die easily if you spray it. Glyphosate if you want, or vinegar if you don't like stronger chemicals. Just be careful not to get either spray on plants you want to keep

 

My eyesight is not as good as it used to be, but that does look remarkably like Mind your own business (Soleirolia soleirolii). A lot of a thug.

It's a pretty little plant, but I keep mine in a pot.

 

It took me ages to get that established in my garden....too dry you see!

 

What would you replace it with, typically likes damp, shady conditions. Its nature colonising a space. Works well with ferns, around a pond, beneath waterfalls, rocky outcrops etc. If it escapes, just hoe or spray (weedwipe with a scrap of impregnated cloth using glysophate and doubled Marigold gloves)

 

I'll put some bitter cress seeds in the post if you like.

I have often wondered if one of those flame wands would work against this. I don't have it myself but do have a little oxalis with purple leaves and orange flowers everywhere. I have given up trying to get rid of it.

 

That one has taken over in my garden, I think I brought it in in pots of plants that had hung around in a garden centre for too long.
