It's a mess, 60 is too fast through small villages.
Here they've gone a lazy way about it, making all 30 roads 20, but they should have looked at each road individually, because they are all different. Yes it would have been a lot of work but much better in the end.
In the small cul-de-sac where I live 20 is too fast. It should be 10. I was driving down one side street in a near-by town today and even 20 was dangerous there. It should have been 10.
I'm afraid something drastic will have to be done in the end.

I'm just saying that people will ignore the 20 limit after a while and travel at a speed that seems right for the road, just like they did in the old 30 limits.

Half the 30s around here used to be 40, and all the 40s used to be 50.

I read somewhere that ICE cars are at their best efficiency at around 50 to 55mph, electric cars are most efficient at 10mph
So you can see where this is heading.;)

I see ... well we might as well all stay at home then, and become depressed and bored.

I'm with E.ON and love them to bits- honestly, they are cute!

In March they told me that my previous six month energy usage was higher than estimated calculations based on annual average/ month :thud: so they politely increased my DD.

Now in September they discovered that my previous six months usage was lower :yikes: than etc etc so reduced my DD.

One of these days I'm going to tell them (in a gentle way) that we use energy to heat the house during the winter, which we don't do during the summer. This behaviour may explain why my energy usage varies across the year.

But it's of course ok if they want to spend resource on carefully calculating my optimum DD and hiking it up and down. I'm sure someone has a job just for this. :)

380,000 and getting ever closer to the number of Welsh Labour voters.

Lee Waters will face a vote of no confidence in the Senedd next week. The deputy climate change minister will face the vote after it was tabled by the Welsh Conservatives.

Mr Waters is the minister in charge of the default 20mph speed limit for Wales.

Just received a letter from Virgin media, stating they are changing the way they price things, basically it will be going up by whatever the retail price index is plus 3.9%.

One sentence on the letter states, As this annual price increase is provided for in your terms there is no right to cancel because of it from April 2024.
Sounds dodgy to me, if someone puts there prices up I cant cancel, its wrong IMO.

Just been on the phone for an hour and cant get any real definite sense out of the person who finally answered the phone.

Apparently I'm on and 18 month contract that ends in January, the new price wont be stated until February.

I've been to Carmarthen. It's about 18 miles. I always drive about 8 miles and then catch the bus (I don't like driving too far on my own since Beryl died)
The bus was on time and I arrived home at the same time as usual

But as you get closer to Carmarthen the villages are further apart and there's not so much ribbon development, so it wasn't too bad.

I should have put this in the 'Things that make you happy' thread

Up our lane we only have VM to supply us so we're stuck with them. Fine for introductory prices but that shot up to 50 quid a month just for broadband then up to 63 this year! Thankfully just this week some bods started looping cables along the telegraph poles and a new company is installing cables to supply us :) I won't be able to jump from VM fast enough!

I'm looking at the new cabling that has been put in all round hear for this so called "full fibre", just a look at makes me think its something from an earlier age, new telegraph poles and lots of cables crossing roads to get to buildings, it certainly makes the place look worse than it used to.
The mess at the top of each pole doesn't give me much confidence, but I shall see how it goes, my next door neighbour has moved over to it from Virgin.
I think Virgin is probably losing lots of customers and trying to tie people in more effectively, so it costs more to change suppliers.

I'm paying £45 a month for broadband and phone.

Yes Scotland is Pete. My nearest town Beauly switched from 30 to 20mph this summer and 20mph signs are popping up everywhere, including the outskirts of Inverness. Many drivers are ignoring the signs.

I saw on my way to get cat food this morning that some of the 20 mph signs near here have been sprayed with black paint. Oh dear, it's only beginning ...
There is also a protest march today somewhere - Cardiff I think.
