It isn't a pay as you go but I don't know what it's called. All my calls are free.
I got through to BT eventually with their on-line chat and got a deal with them for landline and broadband, and they will be able to mend my landline.
It's a smartphone and I'm only going to use it for private calls. I daresay I'll get used to it but I don't phone many people so I think I'll manage.

The first thing my Child did for my first smartphone was to add contacts, that is, write down names and phone numbers of friends, family and important places.

Now it's sort of easy to call, I just tap the "call" icon, get lost, find "contacts" icon and the person I want to call.

Sound up and down and alert sounds are still a mysterious functions, but googling helps a lot if the Child is not available.

Text messaging is most useful skill. (Oh, and by the way, text messaging is a Finnish invention). Would you have a relative or friend to practise with?

Good luck, you'll learn quickly and will hopefully find the thing very useful :)

Thank you @Selleri I tried filling in my contacts but got nowhere and in the end gave up. I may ask my brother to help with it next time I see him.
I don't phone many people anyway so using the key board isn't really a problem.

Well done the Finns, but I think text messages are a bit too much for my brain at the moment. I'll learn how to do it some time later.
I'm just happy to be able to contact people again.

You will get there Michael, I've had mine for over a year and only just learnt how to text. If I get in a muddle I turn it off & on again.
I'm lucky to have my daughter here to help me.
Do you have a friend who could put in your phone contacts for you?

Texting is indeed very useful as the recipient doesn't have to be free to talk to you. Most businesses also nowadays send text alerts, like my dentist and (of all fancy beauty parlours in the planet), Supercuts budget hairdressers in the local shopping centre.

Sending texts is a challenge for me, mostly thanks to the autocorrect function that gets very interesting sometimes. I swap languages all the time and if I have Finnish keyboard selected when texting in English, the automatic suggestions can be rather hilarious :heehee:

Thankfully my nearest and dearest are understanding and don't mind the occasional creative messages (last time I tried to say "OK" but the phone decided I wanted to say "Oak Tree").

Thank you all, however I don't think I'll be bothering with text. I like talking to people properly, and if they're not available I can phone them another time. You can't have a human conversation by sending text messages.
The phone will be switched off most of the time, I only want it to make calls out or to summon help if the car breaks down.
If someone wants to phone me they can use the landline.

Yes I get that trouble when I send an email to my brother or cousin in Welsh, all the words are underlined in red and sometimes the spelling gets changed to something which is neither Welsh nor English and I have to keep changing it back.

My brother will help me do that.

You can if you like but I won't listen
Anyway I park on the road, and the town is quite small so it's easy to find a place, then I just walk around the corner to the shops etc.
When I go other places I use the buses, or I can park free in out of town shopping areas.
My friend was just moaning to me about using a mobile to pay for car parks. She's even more of a dinosaur than I am !

Mine send emails as I don't have a mobile.

But that implies you need to pay for parking! :hate-shocked: I'm too stingy to do that :old:

Mine also, and they can continue doing that because I'm not going to tell them about my mobile

Not any places that have free parking around here, supermarkets usually give you 90min before they fine you and in some you have to have a till receipt.

90 minutes is plenty of time :blue thumb:. The Sainsbury's on the edge of the town centre in the nearest town gives you three hours. :)

Other places, if they don't have free parking then I go somewhere else.

I tend to use my PC to put in contacts as the tiny keyboard on the phone is a pain to use. I use outlook on both phone and PC so they both share my contact list (and calendar)

Blimey that sounds complicated, I just save contacts to phone or sim.

Just shows we all have ways that work for us.

They are worthy candidates for this Moans thread. They usually charge a bit more than the cash option and are dreadfully slow.
