Everything @shiney says is gospel. His hybrids are really prolific and they not only repel aphids, they also do not put out the welcome mat for white fly. And that is a giant bonus!

        Hello all,

Today we picked the JalapeƱos and the last of the sweet peppers. From these, I selected the largest of the jalapenos for poppers. All of the plants now are empty and we have cut back the stems and foliage to ground level.

        Regards

@Ademission "cut back to ground level" - does this mean you overwinter them somehow?

            CanadianLori,

No, I don't overwinter any of the chillies. When I said cut back to ground level I meant that I remove the old stems and leaves so that the possibility of spores etc is removed until I get chance to prepare the clay beads for next year. I still have to empty the hydro tanks before the winter sets in.

            Sorry my phrase was ambiguous.

I'm overwintering seven plants I think, there's still another two locotos to come in and an aji limon. Two aji mocheros, two aji nortenos. The nortenos were five foot when I cut them back. Will see how they do, I've had mixed success overwintering before, these species should do better than the annuums at least.

                  Hello all,

Just converted some of the larger JalapeƱos and a single Sweet Pepper into Poppers for tonight's dinner. Looking forward to eating them a bit later on.

I sometimes overwinter some of the ShineyHybrids and they survive fairly well. I even had some last for five years. :blue thumb:

Sweet peppers rather than chillis, but these have done really well for me this year and I'm still picking them, some plants are outside but still ripening.
I bought some seed, and some plants were grown from Morrisons fruit, and I honestly cant tell which plants are which without looking at the labels, some had root gro as well, but again no difference.
They are small I know, but I prefer them I can eat a couple with a meal rather than half of a normal sized one, also, they dont drop their flowers after a few have set like the bigger ones seem to do.
                      I'll grow these again.

I harvested all of my Shineybrids yesterday because we expected frost. Thank goodness because it was a heavy frost and tonight will be colder with possible flurries. Yes, they were inside the greenhouse but I decided not to heat it as the cost for the short time to do that would have been nasty.

All in all, I feel I had a good year with my super hots too!

Hello! Im not the biggest chili fan but we eat mountains of sweet peppers each week so I grew some this year, went OK but we used unnamed unresearched seeds soooo! A handful of unripe bells at the end x)
I did however start "Bequinho" peppers, and they took months to germinate, resulting in them coming to flower on my windowsill in late november... somehow they are setting fruit and seem happy despite only maybe 4 hours of okay sunlight a day.
Since the photo I moved them to bigger pots. I fertilise weakly weekly. Other than that no clue what im doing Suprising they grow at all where they are.

They do need a really early start @Adam I , mine were sown in January. I still have a few fruit left on my remaining plants. I recommend Gypsy F1 as a reliable cropper for the UK climate.
